Twitter Interview: 1-on-1 with Mark Maguire

Mark MaquireThe artist that I am sitting with today comes from over the pond in the southern part of the United Kingdom.  He is a singer songwriter that is currently working on a new album with six tracks recorded and a few more in the balance.  I literally “met” this guy on Twitter about two hours before this interview took place.  We talked about video games, my chance on having dinner with Tiger Woods, and thus came this interview.  A goof friend of mine, Keaton Simons, does interviews like this all the time and I figured, why not try it.  So from the land of London it is my absolute pleasure to introduce you to the first rickyleepotts Twitter interview, Mark Maguire.

(For those of you that do not know how Twitter works, messages that start with @mjmaguiremusic are messages from me to the artist.  Messages that start with @rickyleepotts are his responses.  I have set a limit to 140 characters for this interview and all questions and answers must fit in 1 single tweet.  All of the messages you see have not been edited and are exactly as I received them.)

@mjmaguiremusic Where are you originally from?

@rickyleepotts I was born in Caerphilly, South Wales, and lived most of my life in South Wales. It’s part of the UK btw 😉

@mjmaguiremusic If you could live anywhere else in the world where would you go?

@rickyleepotts That’s a great question. I would love to live in France – great food, great laidback way of life….questionable people.

@mjmaguiremusic What is your first memory of the guitar?

@rickyleepotts My dad playing Beatles songs to me, when I was about 6 years old. He wasn’t great though, and his singing was terrible!

@mjmaguiremusic What was the last movie you saw?

@rickyleepotts Drag Me To Hell. Watched it on DVD a few nights back. I’d seen it before but watched again cos my girlfriend wanted to see it

@mjmaguiremusic Do you have a job outside of music?

@rickyleepotts Haha. I used to until a week ago. I used to by a Desktop Support guy. I’m now an out of work musician, occasional director.

@mjmaguiremusic Tell me about some movies that you have worked on.  Anything I would know?

@rickyleepotts Well if only. I have made a few short films, but none that are known. One won an award, but not quite an oscar.

@mjmaguiremusic Who are some of your inspirations in the music, and film, industries.

@rickyleepotts Music – Brian Wilson, The Beatles, Bowie, Dylan. Film – David Lynch, Spielberg, Kubrick, Hitchcock, a bit of Richard Kelly.

@mjmaguiremusic What is the largest crowd you have ever played for?

@rickyleepotts Well I played to about 700 once. That was when I was in a band not solo. It doesn’t sound many, but it’s pretty daunting.

@mjmaguiremusic If you were told you had 1 week to live how would you spend your last 7 days?

@rickyleepotts Wow….that’s stumped me. I would probably go and tell some people what I really think of them. Wait…I do that anyways..lol

@mjmaguiremusic Do you ever get confused as the former major league baseball player Mark McGwire?

@rickyleepotts This guy from the US was trying to sell me software over the phone once, and he started by mentioning the Baseball player.

@rickyleepotts But we don’t really follow Baseball in the UK. Oh I’ve cheated now. 2 tweets.

@mjmaguiremusic What is on your Christmas list this year?

@rickyleepotts I’d like a playstation games, some beers and maybe some i-tunes credits. I’m easily pleased 🙂

@mjmaguiremusic If you could be any cartoon character which one would you be and why?

@rickyleepotts Homer Simpson, because he is a legend, and he spends as much of his life sat on the sofa as me

@mjmaguiremusic Where do you see yourself in five years?

@rickyleepotts Hopefully I will be an international superstar. More likely I will still be working as an I.T. nerd. Not giving up yet tho!

@mjmaguiremusic What do you want to be remembered for when this is all said and done?

@rickyleepotts For being funny. Isn’t that what everyone ultimately wants to be remembered for!? Or is that just me?

@mjmaguiremusic Was this your first Twitter interview?  And how did it go?

@rickyleepotts It was, and it was great! Is everyone doing this? It almost seems ground-breaking! 🙂

@mjmaguiremusic Everyone is not doing this.  You are the first.  And it was great.  But one more before I go.  You get the last word.  GO!

@rickyleepotts One word? OK. ‘STYLE’.
