Artist Interview: 1-on-1 with Teethpussy

Artist Interview: 1-on-1 with TeethpussyYou know, with a name like this you have to assume these guys know how to party. I am not saying they know how to make good music, just that they know how to have a good time. And their music, well, you are in luck. It is good music. I first met Colin Clark at an event at the Skyline Club in downtown Indianapolis and he has since introduced me to three bands that he is affiliated with. This band is one of those acts and I must say the most entertaining if not for anything but their name. But based on what I can tell they like to have fun, they put on a good show, and they are just a great group of guys. So sit back, and if you dare get to know the boys that make up the band Teethpussy.

So before we get started, I have to know where you got the name.

Thick Nixon, Mailbox Fence, and Jacque Dachshund were in the studio in 1967. Jacque tried to throw a beer at a preoccupied Thick, upon his rejection the statement “just catch it with your teeth, pussy” was said…and it stuck.

Where did you guys all meet?

Warwickshire at a brothel called “The Pretty Kitty”.

How long have you been performing together?

This year will be our 43rd year still with all the original members.

Who writes all of your lyrics?

Thick Nixon.

You have some pretty provocative song titles there. I assume your show is not family friendly?

We encourage family participation.

What should someone expect when coming to see you perform?

One hell of a shocking rock show and a penguin.

So what’s the deal with the penguin?

As rough cut as we all are we needed something on stage to boost our sex appeal, so we did the obvious and rescued an animal. We drove to the shelter with the intentions of getting a sweet puppy, but were eventually swayed by the penguin.

Describe your genre in one word.

Wet.

Do you guys play out very often?

Do you call five back-to-back world tours “very often”? If so, then yes…the only place we haven’t played is the moon.

I assume you guys all work outside of music?

We work out about twice a month, because Roger That has fragile wrists.

I dig the sound. Who are some of your biggest influences?

Woody Guthrie, Robert Johnson, Chuck Berry, and Judy Garland.

What are you drinking on stage?

Miller High Life and scotch. Both “on the rocks”, please.

What is the biggest crowd you have ever played for?

In Melborne, Australia we played for a crowd of 367,000.

The smallest?

Elwood Retirement Community. There were five there, four were asleep.

Do you guys have a favorite venue?

Brownsburg VFW 206. Wow.

Where do you practice?

We don’t practice. If it doesn’t come natural, it doesn’t come at all.

If you could only perform one song for the rest of your career what song would you pick?

Steady Pap’n.

Do you guys really have an album called Snatch n’ Stache?

What’d you say? Yes mate, we really do: released October, 1972. We released it when we first came to the states.

Are you using a PC or a Mac?

I haven’t tried any of those drugs. Do you have some?

If you could be any cartoon character which one would you choose and why?

Betty Boop.

What are you doing on a typical Friday night?

Watching Andy Griffith or passed out.

I have seen some pictures of you guys on stage at the Patio. Or wait, was it the Rouge? No, perhaps it was Spin Nightclub. Which one was it when you guys played there?

We rocked that stage at Spin Nightclub two years ago.

Tell me a little bit about the Molar Queens.

Molar Queens was our original band name up to 1971. Our manager at the time thought our name was a little awkward and convinced us to change it after several arm wrestling tournaments.

Walmart or Target?

Hills.

You guys seem to have an obsession with teeth. Or at least people holding their mouths open and showing their teeth! Care to explain that?

Our fans started doing this in 1972 after the release of our first album and we don’t really know why. Since then we’ve started collecting these pictures and have an archive of thousands of them.

What is your favorite beer?

Miller High Life.

What is the best concert you have ever been to?

Mili Vanili. They sounded EXACTLY like their album live! We saw them in 1984 and aren’t sure what happened to them. Can’t wait for their next record, that’s for sure!

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Still rockin’.

What do you want to be remembered for when this is all said and done?

When Wheelie Freeze threw up in the House of Parliament and got us all kicked out.

I always let the artist get the last word. Go.

Its been a ride, it’s been a high, it’s all for the music or just let us die…
