Kaskade CRUSHES with Fire & Ice

Posted by rickyleepotts On October - 30 - 2011ADD COMMENTS

Kaskade CRUSHES with Fire & IceEvery year I sit down, usually in the middle of December, and write down a list of the best albums of the year. I used to include all genres in said list, and would release a single blog post of my favorite albums of the year. Last year, since I listen to so many albums by so many artists that cover all genres, I decided to break them apart and write my top 5 in several genres. I plan on doing the same this year. I will write a list for rock, pop, country, electronic dance music… you get the idea. Because I wait until the end of the year to write these blogs, I am always listening to new work and trying to pick my favorite releases of the year. Well… I fond one for the electronic dance music category.

This album isn’t even out yet (comes out November 8, 2011) but I got the chance to hear it early. This album is going to be SO hot. I can’t even begin to tell you how great this release is. I am talking about “Fire & Ice” from Kaskade. I actually had the chance to see Kaskade play earlier this year on Identity Festival, and he did a few of the tracks on this album here in Indy.

The album has 21 tracks on it, and features a TON of big names. Some of the names appearing include Mindy Gledhill, Marcus Bently, Haley, Quadron, Dada Life, Inpetto, Skylar Grey, Skrillex, and Neon Trees. (The Neon Trees track is my favorite, by the way.) I just love the way the album progresses from one song to the next and has the ability to literally get me out of my seat and dancing in the middle of the room. The bass is heavy, and the beats are plenty. This might be one of the best albums I have ever heard, and is hands down his best work yet.

Kaskade – “Fire & Ice” Tracklising

Below is a complete tracklisting of “Fire & Ice”. I also included each artist that is featured on each track so you can see a little bit more about who he is working with. A lot of these songs repeat on the album, but they are all remixes… so while Eyes is on the album three times, it’s three totally different songs. It never seems that you are listening to the same tracks over and over again.

  1. Kaskade featuring Mindy Gledhill – Eyes
  2. Kaskade with Rebecca & Fiona – Turn It Down
  3. Kaskade featuring Neon Trees – Lessons In Love
  4. Kaskade and Skrillex – Lick It
  5. Kaskade featuring Haley – Llove
  6. Kaskade featuring Marcus Bently – Let Me Go
  7. Kaskade featuring Quardron – Waste Love
  8. Kaskade and Dada Life with Dan Black – ICE
  9. Kaskade and Inpetto with Late Night Alumni – How Long
  10. Kaskade featuring Skylar Grey – Room For Happiness
  11. Kaskade featuring Mindy Gledhill – Eyes (Kaskade’s ICE Mix)
  12. Kaskade with Rebecca & Fiona – Turn It Down (Kaskade’s ICE Mix)
  13. Kaskade – Lessons In Love (Kaskade ICE Mix)
  14. Kaskade and Skrillex – Lick It (Kaskade ICE Mix)
  15. Kaskade featuring Haley – Llove (Kaskade ICE Mix)
  16. Kaskade featuring Marcus Bently – Let Me Go (Kaskade ICE Mix)
  17. Kaskade featuring Quadron – Waste Love (Kaskade ICE Mix)
  18. Kaskade and Dada Life with Dan Black – ICE (Kaskade ICE Mix)
  19. Kaskade with Inpetto with Late Night Alumni – How Long (Kaskade ICE Mix)
  20. Kaskade featuring Skylar Grey – Room For Happiness (Kaskade ICE Mix)
  21. Kaskade featuring Mindy Gledhill – Eyes (Lazaro Casanova Remix)

Kaskade “Fire & Ice” Album Promotional Video

Check out a video I found on YouTube. This is a promotional video for “Fire & Ice”. This video takes you into the studio and explains where some of the inspiration for these tracks came from. (I especially like hearing from Kaskade as he talks about the release. You see these guys on stage night after night, but never get the chance to hear them up close and personal.)

ABOVE & BEYOND Anjunabeats Volume 9

Posted by rickyleepotts On October - 28 - 2011ADD COMMENTS

ABOVE & BEYOND Anjunabeats Volume 9Above & Beyond’s 2011 has been all about one thing – landmarks. In January they celebrated 10 years of their ever-growing Anjunabeats label, before March’s 200th single release on the imprint; the genre defying anthem and Beatport #1 hit Rebound by Arty and Mat Zo.

In April, Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness and Paavo Siljamäki then embarked on their biggest ever tour of the US with a road blocked 22-date stretch, including two sold out shows at LA’s legendary Hollywood Palladium, with the first selling out in just 90 minutes – a new record for the legendary venue.

After seeing their Sun & Moon anthem playlisted by BBC Radio 1 and reach the top 15 of the Billboard Dance Charts in the US, the trio were ready to unleash their second artist album – “Group Therapy”. Earning them a cover star interview with DJ Magazine and described as “stadium dance with an incredibly personal feel” and “artist album of the year” in a Mixmag review, the string-laden album has been praised by critics and fans alike as a masterpiece in emotive, song-based electronic music.

In such a fast moving year, it seems fitting to close on a familiar totem pole in Above & Beyond’s annual calendar; their Anjunabeats Volume series. Capturing the sound of a label that has dominated Beatport charts and been supported this year by DJs as diverse as The Swedish House Mafia, Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren and David Guetta, Anjunabeats Volume 9 offers 2xCDs of predominantly unreleased, exclusive tracks from artists like Arty, Mat Zo, Super8 & Tab, Andrew Bayer, Jaytech, Maor Levi and Above & Beyond themselves.

Modern, melodic and emotive, Above & Beyond’s Anjunabeats sound remains unrestricted from one-dimensional genre restrictions. From the reflective, filmic pianos of Above & Beyond’s own unreleased Tokyo through hypnotic progressive sounds like Jaytech’s Overdrive to the synth-frenzy of Nitrous Oxide’s iPeople and the explosive funk-charged house fusion of Mat Zo and Arty’s brand new collaboration Mozart, Anjunabeats Volume 9 captures the full emotional intensity of the Above & Beyond DJ experience.

Also including Above & Beyond’s futuristic electro-edged anthem Formula Rossa, Anjunabeats Volume 9 covers the work of over 20 artists – a testament to the vibrant, tightly bound label family that Anjunabeats has evolved into.

Above & Beyond will be broadcasting the 400th episode of their Trance Around The World radio show via a special live eight hour broadcast from Beirut, Lebanon on 26 November – with guests Gareth Emery, Kyau & Albert, Mat Zo and Jaytech. For full info check out tatw400.com.

John Dahlbäck returns with “One Last Ride”

Posted by rickyleepotts On October - 27 - 2011ADD COMMENTS

John Dahlback returns with "One Last Ride" on Big Beat / AtlanticJohn Dahlbäck has been a consistently respected producer in the electronic music scene for nearly a decade now, with productions spanning from deep and techy, to progressive and chunky, and now finally, with his latest single One Last Ride, outright bold and joyful. This new school ballad features goosebump-provoking vocals from fellow Swede Erik Hassle surrounded by airy pumping synths creating an epic crossover hit.

The remix package is superb. Felix Cartal, a master of dark, grungy bass, delivers his version with chopped up vocals laced throughout the overbearing and glitchy “punch-to-the-gut” rough style while maintaining the uplifting original melody in the breakdown of the song. It’s been a mainstay in Tiësto’s recent sets. Meanwhile, Tommy Trash turns the track into a proper club banger with his crisp production style with a pure bred electro house bassline that could please the crowds at both Pacha and Fabric. Tommy’s remix first gained the world’s attention when Sebastian Ingrosso dropped it into Swedish House Mafia’s takeover of Pete Tong’s Radio 1 show. Finally, My Digital Enemy creates a tropical jam; the jungle beat, horns and big bass drums will have hips shaking worldwide.

2011 has been John Dahlback’s most prolific year; packed with a full global tour schedule and new releases on Toolroom, Spinnin’, Defected, Versuz, Big Beat/Atlantic NEWS,  Universal GAS, Universal Nordic, Ministry Of Sound Australia and One Love/Sony Australia. He’s also remixed Lady Gaga, Nicole Featuring 50 Cent, Skylar Gray, David Morales and Sneaky Soundsystem, among others. John is prepping for an even busier 2012 with the January release of a mix CD for Toolroom Records and brand new singles each month thereafter.

Artist Interview: 1-on-1 with Kilo

Posted by rickyleepotts On October - 26 - 2011ADD COMMENTS

Artist Interview: 1-on-1 with KiloI am pretty much sick of the DJ Mag Top 100… it seems like the list continues to sell out, and more pop is being let in and is rising to the top. Electronic dance music is not pop, and while no one listened to David Guetta when he was actually good, people flock to him now because he is producing with popular artists. Anyway, moving on. The guy I am sitting with today is NOT pop, rather one of the most talented artists I have heard in a long time. I am SO excited to have him here with me today. He produces beats that make you get up and move. I mean that… listen to a few of his tracks and tell me you don’t dance. I can’t get enough of this guy, and I hope names like this and productions like this start making some noise… no pun intended. It is my absolute pleasure to be sitting with Kilo, my new favorite DJ.

Where do we begin… let’s start with your name. Kilo seems to be a pretty generic name. Where did that come from? And is it just Kilo, or DJ Kilo?

It’s just Kilo. I like to think of myself as an artist and being a DJ is just part of the package. I was originally spelling it Key Low, which was sort of a play on words because I play piano/keyboard and there’s a lot of bass or “low” end in my tracks, but after promoters kept spelling it wrong on flyers and I kept having to explain to people why it was spelt that way, I decided to just stick with Kilo! It seems to stick in peoples heads and looks good on a flyer/poster.

Most folks would consider you an up and coming artist. When did you get started in electronic music, and what sort of success have you had thus far with EDM?

I am definitely up and coming, I’m a long way from my peak. I’ve been doing music seriously for about two years now but have been playing piano and messing about with music since I was very young. I had my first set of decks when I was thirteen so I’ve been DJing over a decade! I’ve had seven tracks released on Beatport, three of them which Beatport chose to be featured tracks. At the moment I have loads of new tracks waiting to be released but am waiting for the right label who wants to back me properly. I have also been working on some pop/house crossover with writers who are signed to the music giant EMI Music. We have made some really good tracks together, were just currently waiting for the right artists to take the tracks.

You recently remixed a Lil Wayne song. When you work on a track like that, do you have to get their permission before you can remix?

I do remixes like this purely for promo. It racks up YouTube hits and helps people know the name Kilo, as long as it’s for promo you don’t need their permission.

How may artists have you remixed? Is there any one remix that means more to you than the next?

I’ve only done a few remixes, as to be honest I would rather work on my own material than mix someone else. I’m a massive Kanye fan so my favorite would have to be my All of the Lights Remix (Click here to watch the YouTube video of that remix.) It’s had over 30,000 hits!

You are utilizing all the social networks. From Facebook to Twitter, YouTube and beyond you are pretty much covered across the board. How do you find time for all of these social media solutions?

Hard work! I’m earning just enough from music to do it full time so it’s just part of daily routine to update and stay social. I’m a big fan of Twitter! (@kilomusic) I’ve had some good help from Cabin Fever Global, who do everything from music/fiilm production to managing artists. There last two films, Anovahood and Screwed both feature productions from myself and I’ve also just signed over three tracks to the new Gum Ball rally film out next year.

So I LOVE the picture of you… well, you are pretty much taking a bite out of an album. What’s the story with that photo?

I was doing a photo shoot with some of the other artists who use Cabin Fever… they looked over after and I just took a few props along and that was an idea I had! The photographer loved the idea and we got some really good shots!

You are originally from the UK if I’m not mistaken. Do you ever get the chance to perform over here in the states?

Yes, I’m from the UK, just south of London. I definately want to perform in the US buts it’s just a case of building my fan base and getting promoters to believe in me. I’m sure ill be out there one day soon!

There are SO many great performers out there. Who are some of your favorites? What are you listening to these days?

I love all great music across the board. I generally listen to dance music when I’m partying and hip hop/rap when I’m relaxing or driving. On the dance side my current favourites are Afrojack, Avicii, Dirty South and Swanky Tunes. My all time favorite musician is Kanye West; I listen to a lot of Kanye, also Jay Z, Drake, Lil Wayne but also just anything that’s good, I’m not scared to admit I even enjoy a bit of pop music every now and again!

Some call is house. Others might call it dance or trance. What do YOU call it? Is it possible to describe your genre in one word?

In one word, DANCE! My style is a mix of electro and progressive house; it’s very hard to put it in one category. I’m more going for the epic, uplifting progressive sound at the moment, but the main thing I go for in a track is that it makes you feel good and makes you want to dance!

The more I listen to dance, the more I want to start producing tracks. What made you decide to start producing?

I’ve just always been interested in making music and I just thought I’d try it one day. I seemed to catch on really quickly and it just went from there. I’m now in the studio every day!

I’ve been all over Europe, but never to London. What’s the dance scene like over there?

It’s really good; there are so many clubs in and around London that there’s always something good on. My personal favorite is Ministry of Sound. I’m up there most weeks. They always have big lineups and I’ve met alot of big DJs by going there.

I recently attended Electric Zoo 2011. There were some 85,000 people there for three days of beats. What’s the biggest crowd you have ever played for?

Nothing on that level… yet. One day I’ll get there! I’ve played some decent size clubs, the biggest crowd probably around 1,000 people I guess… it’s hard to say.

How do you stay motivated night after night?

I believe in life you should do what you love doing and for me that’s making music and sharing it with people by DJing. Sometimes it’s hard to stay motivated but I just have alot of self belief and when I get strangers coming up to me or hitting me up on Twitter saying they love my tracks, or have been playing my latest DJ set none stop it makes all the hard work worth while!

Let’s say that you weren’t producing beats… what would you be doing?

I enjoy most sports especially football, golf and boxing. I also get down the gym quite a bit so I guess something active and sporty.

I know it’s a few years from now, but where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years, I want to have established a good name for myself in the dance industry and be getting bookings worldwide. I’m improving musically every year so I’d like to have had some big dance hits under my belt by then. It’s all about just taking it one step at a time and working as hard as I can to make it happen.

I feel like I could ask you questions all day, but I know you are a busy guy. That being said, thanks for taking the time to sit down with me for this interview. In all of the interviews that I do, I always give the artist the last word. Go.

Just like to say thanks for taking an interest and doing this interview!  And just to everyone reading watch out for the name Kilo!

Steve Jobs License Plate Debacle

Posted by rickyleepotts On October - 25 - 20112 COMMENTS

Steve Jobs License Plate DebacleAs we all know, Steve Jobs passed away earlier this month. He is known for several things, including his relationship with Pixar Animation Studios and of course, Apple. He was actually the co-founder, chairman, and CEO of Apple and the CEO of Pixar. Steve passed away on October 5, 2011 after an 8-year battle with cancer. He was 56.

I haven’t really written about him much, over the years or since his death. But I recently read an article about his license plate. Or… lack of a license plate. Of all of the things that Steve Jobs has done, to write a blog about his license plate seems a bit funny… but wait until you hear this.

Steve Jobs used to drive a Mercedes. (I drive a Mercedes. Well, a Smart car, but it’s made by Mercedes.) His car never had a license plate on it. Every so often it was a hot topic of conversation in the Silicon Valley. Now we know why. You can blame the state of California. In the state of California, anyone with a brand new car has a maximum of six months to affix the issued number plate to the vehicle. Does that mean that Steve Jobs drove a new car every six months? Yep!

From the beginning, Jobs made an arrangement with the leasing company that he would always change cars sometime during his six-month lease. The car, a silver Mercedes SL55 AMG, was always the same; always an exact replica of the original car with all of the same features and options. At no time would he ever be in a car older than six months; and thus there was no legal requirement to have the number plates fitted. What a clever guy Jobs was!

That’s pretty crazy… I wonder what the laws are like here in the state of Indiana. That might be something to consider… I love the new car smell!

Anyway, I apologize for not writing on his death until now. He will be missed, that’s for sure. But I find things like this so unique. I would rather honor him in small, subtle ways than to write a big long blog explaining how upset or how sad I am. I am upset… but only because he died so young.

Rest in peace Steve.

12th Planet, born John Dadzie, is no stranger to the game. He spent seven years touring the world as drum-n-bass maestro Infiltrata. In 2005, inspired by the burgeoning dubstep sound developing in the UK, John decided to push his own interpretation. His dedication and determination to this new sound saw him quickly rise to become North America’s reigning dubstep king. With remixes out for MIA and John Legend and forthcoming collaborations with Korn and Dizzee Rascal, the future is bright for this rising star.

The “Who Are We?” EP kicks off with title track Who Are We? featuring vocals by UK grime MC Badness and female vocals from Honey. The second track Corner Pocket is an original production by 12th Planet himself and showcases his signature style dubstep. The third track is the re-release of 12th Planet & Juakali’s massive single Reasons (Doctor P Remix) that gained well deserved attention when its video premiered on MTV2.

On November 25th, SMOG celebrates 5 years of hard work and success with an anniversary event taking place at the Galaxy Theatre in Santa Ana, CA.  Alongside a super-star line-up of international talent and SMOG residents, party-goers will also get the chance to view a special screening of the 12th Planet documentary. With tons of free giveaways and BBQ grub being provided by SMOG’s favorite chef Jungle Riddim, this event is not to be missed.  The newly renovated Galaxy Theater will host 3 rooms of pounding bass with state-of-the-art lighting and Funktion One sound. Cory Copeland – tmfs: to my future spouse .com

Posted by rickyleepotts On October - 21 - 2011ADD COMMENTS

Cory Copeland - tmfs: to my future spouse .comTalk about a cool concept… and a great URL. I have interviewed his band, but during the interview we talked about another project he was working on called To My Future Spouse. It’s a great idea, and one that he has been able to capitalize on. The man behind this blog is Cory Copeland, and he has been able to take this idea and turn it into a blog that is attracting all walks of life. Imagine the ability to write a letter to your future spouse, and have it shared with the world… thus enter tmfs. On the site, you can submit your letters, and they will get posted for everyone to see… future spouse included. I have written a few letters, and have spent many nights reading others. This is a great idea, and I just had to learn more. So I sat down with Cory again, but this time put music aside. I wanted to focus on the website. What would you like to say to your future spouse?

An artist interview wasn’t enough… now I find out you are running this SICK blog concept… rather than me recapping what you are doing, tell us a little bit more about tmfs: to my future spouse.

TMFS is a site that allows individuals to write anonymous love notes to their future spouse, whether they know who that person is or not. I started the site last July and I have to say I’m really proud of all it’s accomplished this past months.

Since you are writing about marriage, are you married?

Not anymore. I got married when I was nineteen but divorced when I was twenty-two.  I actually had a book published about the whole ordeal. (laughs)

Do you see more men writing in, or women?

Definitely more women. I think most men are afraid to access the part of themselves that allows them to be “mushy” or romantic on a regular basis. Most women don’t have that problem because it’s what they want from their man, to be treated like the queen they believe themselves to be.

I bet some of these comments can get pretty naughty… do you try to moderate this at all?

I have certainly had a few risqué notes slide into the inbox. As a writer myself, I never like to censor someone, especially when their writing from a vulnerable place but I do try to keep TMFS at a certain level of class which means editing for misspellings or maybe rewording to make the note flow a little better. Nothing wrong with a little sass though. (laughs)

Your use of Tumblr. has simply impressed me. You are on here… the band you are in uses it. tmfs uses it. What’s your obsession with Tumblr? (For the record, that’s not a bad thing.)

You’re absolutely right. TMFS is the first blog I opened on Tumblr but it was so easy to use that I moved my own personal blog over soon after. It’s just one of the better, more simplistic blogging tools that I’ve seen so I’ve stuck with it.

So in all of the notes that you have read, what are some of the most memorable?

Over the past year, TMFS has posted almost 3,000 notes. During that time, the most memorable are the ones that divulge a deep, sometimes traumatic secret about themselves or relay a wish they only want their future spouse to read or see. I count it a great responsibility and honor that people trust me with their notes. I don’t take that lightly by any means. I take the confidentiality of the submitter as serious as possible. I think that’s one reason the site has been as successful as it has been.

Have you ever had someone contact you, getting married, and having been influenced by the site?

The biggest influence I’ve seen is people sending in thank you notes to me personally for giving them a site that shows them that there are good men and women out there who care about marriage and aren’t just all about sleeping with as many people as possible. TMFS is about decency and in today’s age, decency isn’t as rampant as we’d like to think.

How does this project come up in conversation? Do you just tell people, “Hey, write a note to your future spouse… here’s how!”

Well it started out like that! (laughs) I began by posting on my personal Facebook and Twitter accounts multiple times a day that I had a new website I was running. It kind of took off from there. TMFS’ growth has been almost entirely word of mouth which is incredible to think about.

Every now and then I’ll alert my new Twitter followers about the site or post a random status about it on Facebook but that’s about it for “advertising”.

How many of these notes come in on a daily basis?

I’d say an average of ten notes a day come in.

Surely there has to be a way to make money on this… or is that even your goal here?

This question makes me think of the line from The Social Network when Timberlake’s character tells Zuckerburg, “You don’t know what it (Facebook) is yet…” That’s where I’m at now. I figure I’ll just let the site run an organic course and if it turns a buck in the future, then great. But if not, then that’s okay too.

All blogs have haters… have you had anyone try to tear your dreams apart with this project?

Absolutely. People call it “stupid” or “too mushy” because they don’t see the point but to each their own, right?

You know, I bet this is a good way to pick up chicks. “Hey honey, why don’t you write me a note…” You then could explain it… how cute? Anyway, how do you stay motivated with this project?

(laughs) I’ve actually been accused of starting the site solely to meet women but that doesn’t bother me. Yes, I’ve attached my name and face to the site so people will know who they’re trusting with their notes but I just enjoy the romanticism of it all. I’m proud of TMFS and the hope if provides for people who want to find love.

I bet you could work with some dating services, or even have your own events, where singles get together and write their notes while drinking and hanging out… sort of an organized excuse to meet singles. Ever thought of that?

I’ve thought about that but with TMFS being known for its anonymity that may be kind of tricky. That and the readers are spread out all over the United States and the rest of the world for that matter. To get a concentrated group of TMFS readers in one spot this early in the site’s history would be challenge, I’d think.

You are using the blog, Twitter, and Facebook to promote this… which one of those social services has proven to be the most successful for you?

We have more followers on Tumblr but I’d say it has to be Twitter (@tmfspouse).  Mostly because individuals will tweet notes with the hashtag #tmfs and TMFS will retweet them. This way TMFS’ followers can put a name and face with a note. I’ve witnessed friendships built through these connections and it’s amazing to see. One day, we may even have a couple get married who met only because of TMFS. That would be awesome.

You have a disclaimer there on your website. What’s the reason for making that known? Have you ever had any issues with people challenging you using his or her comments?

I haven’t had any issues yet. I put the disclaimer up simply for liability purposes. I try to avoid any and all issues that would threaten the site.

Why do you keep it anonymous? What happens if, say, in five years someone wants his or her note back… how would you know?

I keep all the notes that have been posted to the TMFS site in a folder in the inbox. I keep it anonymous because I think most people find it easier to submit their personal thoughts and dreams if no one knows it was them that submitted it. Plus, it gives the site an air of intrigue and that never hurt anyone. (laughs)

Let’s pretend you are not married… not dating. And you stumble across this site. Go ahead; write your note to your future spouse.

Actually, I write and post my own notes from time to time. But if it was on the spot, I’d have to say, “To My Future Wife: I’m not ready for you just yet but when I am, I plan on wowing you every chance I get. Prepare yourself, woman.”

You have some TMFS apparel… what all can I buy associated with the project?

Well, I actually had some t-shirts designed but ran in to some issues with the printer so we had to postpone that for now. I’m hoping to get it off the ground soon.

I keep calling it a project… sorry, that’s what I call it! What’s next for TMFS?

I haven’t decided just yet. But whatever it is, I’ll be sure to get the readers’ input beforehand. TMFS has become its own little community and I love that. I like to think we’re all in this together. Hopefully, the readers feel the same. (laughs)

Jesse Rose Made For The Night

Posted by rickyleepotts On October - 20 - 2011ADD COMMENTS

Jesse Rose Made For The NightA brand for club life, a compilation series, club residencies around the world, a globetrotting DJ, a genre defining producer, a trend setting A&R. It all seems rather complicated, so let’s break it down.

The brainchild of Jesse Rose, “Made For The Night” started life as compilation series that would provide a way for the listener to fully understand an artist. Not another remix compilation, “Best Of” or overpriced single CD DJ mix, but an insight for the listener to understand both sides of an artist, both what they play in the club and what they produce outside of the club. The series will not just look at legends or headliners but also the up and coming. Along with the compilation, comes a short documentary following the artist, the first in the series directed by Jules Audry. From here Jesse decided that this should also follow into club night residencies around the world pushing a forward thinking night, not a label night that has to put on the artists on their roster but a night Jesse could really put his love of all sides on dance music into one place. Mixing artists is Jesse’s concept, wishing to invite friends such as Loco Dice, Radio Slave, label mates Oliver $, Riva Starr and Round Table Knights alongside house legends such as Derrick Carter, Sneak and Cajmere to forward thinking new acts such as Axel Boman, then flipping it with artists such as Flying Lotus, Four Tet and L-vis 1990.

What better time for this all to begin than 2011, a time when people are done with one music all night long and at the same time are fed up with non-stop big tunes being played all night. When people can log onto the internet and be into a multitude of different things. Proof of this; Jesse is just as comfortable playing at L.A Sunday bash “The Do-Over” alongside Gaslamp Killer and DJ Quik playing house as he is at Cocoon playing with Sven Vath and at both parties the crowd knows exactly what to expect from Jesse.

What you have to remember is Jesse Rose started out recording for Derrick Carter’s seminal “Classic” label, created a scene with Switch that become the starting point for new scenes to emerge, from Ed Banger to Dirty Bird. Jesse then moved to Berlin and got deep holding residency at Panorama bar alongside Luciano, Ricardo Villalobos and Cassy. With his labels Front Room Recordings, Made to Play and now Play it Down, Jesse took house into multiple directions, helping to create careers for the likes of Sinden, Riva Starr, Oliver $, Zombie Disco Squad, Trevor Loveys, Round Table Knights and many more.

Jesse also seems to be the kind of guy that always happens to be in the right place at the right time. Moving to Bristol as a teenager being brought up exposed to the rise of trip-hop and drum and bass by the likes of Massive Attack (in fact Jesse’s first club night at the tender age of fourteen had Daddy G from Massive Attack as his guest), Portishead, Roni Size, to trips back to London to see his father, listening to Kiss FM and being taken to shows by Giles Peterson, Cypress Hill and hanging out at the famous jazz club Ronnie Scots. By the time Jesse moved back to London at the age of 18, he had already created a good rep as a DJ, produced his first tracks, mixed a compilation for house label Subversive and was about to meet the producer that would change his life; Dave Taylor, AKA, Switch. The two started producing together and Dave pushed Jesse to step up his game and produce solo material. Jesse then became a regular, playing at the newly open Fabric club and had his own weekly Kiss FM show. From there Jesse brought his version of house to Berlin and was greeted with open arms by press, clubs and the general public, bringing something new to a scene that, at that time, was fully focused on minimal techno.

“Made For The Night” is Jesse’s first compilation since the highly acclaimed Body Language mix on Get Physical in 2007. “Made For The Night” will be released on November 21.

Fedde Le Grand to Support COLDPLAY in Concert!

Fedde Le Grand to Support COLDPLAY in Concert!Dutch DJ and producer Fedde Le Grand (Put Your Hands Up For Detroit) has been confirmed as the official guest artist for Coldplay’s American Express “Unstaged” concert at the Plaza del Toros de Las Ventas in Madrid on October 26, following the global success of his remix of Paradise, the second single to be taken from Coldplay’s critically acclaimed fifth studio album “Mylo Xyloto” (Capitol Records). The track, #1 on influential music download site Beatport – and Le Grand’s fifth number 1 this year alone – premiered worldwide on Pete Tong’s Radio 1 show and has taken international dance floors and radio stations by storm.

Le Grand, who rises 7 places in this year’s DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Poll to the #14 spot, will open the concert, which will then see Coldplay streamed live across the globe to millions via the power of YouTube and VEVO, filmed and directed by award-winning filmmaker and photographer Anton Corbijn (The American, Control). Fans in New York City will also be able to catch the performance on four large LED screens with in-built sound situated in Times Square.

For Le Grand it is a dream come true. “I think this is the first time Coldplay has asked a DJ to join them for the support. It is a huge honor. But at the same time it feels like a logical next step. In my music I am always looking for exciting new connections. Different elements that come together and create something new. I feel you can hear that in the remix I did for Coldplay’s Paradise as well.”
