A Victory For Your Taste: Victory Beers

A Victory For Your Taste: Victory Beers

This 1001 Bottles project has been fun, and I am learning a ton about beer. From where beers are made to the ingredients they use, beer is a very complex beverage and one that as I expand my palate am getting more and more obsessed with. I am actually starting to fall in love with breweries, not just the styles. For example, Founders Brewing Company. They make a wide range of beers, and they are ALL amazing. Another brewery that I am really getting excited about is the Victory Brewing Company.

Victory has a pretty diverse selection of beers too. Below are all of the beers they currently offer. I will break them down by flagship beers, their year round beers, and their seasonal selection.

Flagship Beers

HopDevil – American India Pale Ale – 6.7% ABV
Menacingly delicious, with the powerful, aromatic punch of whole flower American hops backed by rich, German malts. HopDevil Ale offers a roller coaster ride of flavor coasting to a smooth finish that satisfies fully. This beer pairs well with cheddar cheeses, grilled meats, and spicy curry.

Prima Pils – German Pilsner – 5.3% ABV
Heaps of hops gives this pale lager a bracing, herbal bite over layers of soft and smooth malt flavor. This refreshing combination of tastes makes Prima a classy quencher in the tradition of the great pilsners of Europe. This beer pairs well with sushi, burgers, and pizza.

Golden Monkey – Belgian-style Tripel – 9.5% ABV
Strong and sensual, this golden, Belgian-style ale glows. The richness of German malts and Belgian yeast are tempered by a sparkling approach and overall light body. Abundant herbal, fruity notes make this one to savor. This beer pairs well with milk cheeses and grilled seafood. My good friend Jake Long has been pairing beer with cheese… and this one is a great way to start that journey!

Headwaters Pale Ale – Pale Ale – 5.1% ABV
The brewery is blessed with exceptionally pure water that travels just over a dozen wooded miles to reach the brewery. With this pristine water they have transformed floral American hops and subtle, crisp German malts into a refreshing delight. This beer pairs well with burgers and some subtle English cheeses.

Year Round Beers

Storm King Imperial Stout – Russian Imperial Stout – 9.2% ABV
Rolling in like a hurricane of flavor, Storm King is dense and full-bodied, with deep, dark chocolate flavors of roasted malts under a massive hop aroma. This imperial stout will assault your senses and soothe your soul. This beer pairs well with grilled red meats, chocolate, and fruit desserts.

Hop Wallop – American Ale – 8.5% ABV
This exotic mix of hops offers a pungent punch of citrus fruit and aromas of pine. A substantial malt base supports the profound hop character and adds an alluring complexity. This beer is great on tap, and pairs well with garlic roasted chicken breast, and most BBQ dishes. In my opinion, you get more hops from the tap.

Victory Lager – German Helles Lager – 4.8% ABV
Perfectly balanced, this authentic version of a German Helles-style lager satisfies gloriously. Lean, German malts and fine European hops offer subtle harmony. This beer is very light, and pairs well with mild seafood dishes, and spicy Asian and Latin foods.

Victory Twelve – Belgian Strong Ale – 12% ABV
Heady with an aromatic, fruity start and taste, this amber ale features hints of pear and apricot in its nuanced flavor. The initial impression of fruitiness gives way to a refreshing dryness that begs for another sip. This beer pairs well with cheeses, and roasted fowl including duck.

Helios Ale – Belgian Farmhouse Ale – 7.5% ABV
An earthy, aromatic hop start slides into flavors of honey and mildly tart fruit. Leaving a refreshing citrus and pepper infusion of dryness, this is a quenching, invigorating ale. This beer, as well as most farmhouse ales, pairs well with soft cheeses and grilled seafood.

Seasonal Selection

Whirlwind Witbier – Belgian-style White Ale – 5% ABV
A tamed tempest of flavors both spicy and sublime, Whirlwind is a refreshing interpretation of the classic Belgian white beer style. Imported Belgian yeast charges Whirlwind with an energy all its own. This beer is available April through August.

Victory Summer Love Ale – Golden Ale – 5.2% ABV
With the sublime, earthy familiarity of noble, European hops backed up by fresh and clean German malts, Summer Love Ale ends with a surprising burst of lemony refreshment from fistfuls of American whole flower hops. This beer is available May through August.

Sunrise Weissbier – Bavarian Hefeweizen – 5.4% ABV
All German malts, hops and yeast coming to give this unfiltered ale a crisp, citric snap, while staying true to its Bavarian origins. It is a sunny, summer beer. This beer is available August through October.

Festbier – Marzen / Oktoberfest Lager – 5.6% ABV
Subtly sweet with a delicate malt nose, Victory Festbier gains its impressive body from the use of all imported, German malts. Using a decoction brewing process gives the beer a feeling of smooth satisfaction. This beer is available August through October.

Moonglow Weizenbock – Bavarian Weizenbock – 5.6% ABV
This rich, dark amber wheat beer brings fruity and spicy aromas. Significant strength underlies the pleasant citric appeal of this bock beer. This beer is available September and October.

Yakima Glory – Dark Indiana Pale Ale – 8.7% ABV
Hops from Washington’s Yakima Valley provide the spicy, aromatic spark that brightens the deep malt flavors of this big ale. Those hops harmonize with dark roasted malts to deliver complex satisfaction with a warming edge. This beer is available November through February.

Old Horizontal – American Barleywine – 11% ABV
Massive amounts of barley malts and freshly harvested American hops make Old Horizontal dangerously delicious. Floral, fruity aromas slide into honeyed malt depth with lingering sensations of candied and citrus fruits.

As you can see, Victory has a pretty diverse portfolio of beers. A few of those are actually on the 1001 Bottles list including Golden Monkey, HopDevil, Prima Pils, and the Storm King. Hop Wallop is my favorite Victory beer. I also like the Old Horizontal. Like I said, I am just starting to fall in love with this brewery and I will tend to like everything they release. Bell’s is like that. Founders is like that. Now… Victory is like that.
