It’s official. Rory McIlroy is now with Nike. It was officially announced today, but there has been some serious speculation for the last few weeks. Rory is currently the #1 player in the world. Right behind him is Tiger Woods, also with Nike Golf. Imagine these two being paired on Sunday coming down the stretch. That would be hard not to watch. That might even happen this weekend as they make their 2013 debut at the HSBC Golf Championship in Abu Dhabi.
With this new deal, Rory will be using Nike equipment and will also be sporting Nike apparel for the next few years. Not only will he be getting some serious deals on equipment, but he is also getting paid. A lot. The deal is worth over $200 million. Think about that for a second. Rory is only 23. Not only is he at the top of his game, he is now one of the highest paid athletes on the planet. At least he is following in Tiger’s footsteps.
Earlier today, a commercial was released featuring these two. It’s pretty funny, and I am curious to see how they worth together and how they battle each other in the coming years. Maybe this is what Tiger needs to push him over the edge and win a few more majors. Rory, assuming he stays healthy, will be around for a long time. Tiger is running out of chances. Perhaps all Tiger needed was a little healthy friendly competition.
“Dude, is that your real hair?” Ha!
