Arnold Palmer Invitation: Tiger Wins Again

Arnold Palmer Invitational: Tiger Wins Again

It’s been a long time coming, but Tiger Woods is back. He didn’t win a major, but he is back at No. 1 after winning the 2013 Arnold Palmer Invitational Presented by MasterCard. The event, hosted by PGA TOUR legend Arnold Palmer, finished today due to a weather delay yesterday. The weather was pretty intense, as some pretty severe thunderstorms moved through the area. Toady, Tiger was wearing his Sunday red (and by Sunday, I mean his final round red), and managed to hold off guys like Justin Rose and his playing partner Rickie Fowler. Fowler actually hit two balls in the water coming in, serving as the final nail in the coffin for Tiger. Oh, and Tiger has won here 8 times. He plays pretty good here! (The event takes place every year at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando, Florida.)

While Tiger was busy winning, former world No. 1 Rory McIlroy was at a municipal golf course in Miami, Florida hitting golf balls. That story broke after the fact, but I find it funny Rory didn’t play in the event, but has time to hit balls with hacks like you and me. Based on how he is playing this year, that might be where he belongs!

I am glad to see Tiger back at the top. That is where he belongs, and that is where he feels most comfortable. Tiger had the lead after 54 holes… there was no doubt in my mind he was going to win. He has only lost the lead twice in his career when holding the lead after 54 holes. The stats are endless, and he just continues to amaze me. He might be getting older, but he’s fun again. After he was finished playing, I watched a new commercial featuring Arnold Palmer called The Rumble.

Sergio Climbs A Tree

There were a lot of great shots this week, but the best shot of the week might have come from Sergio Garcia. You remember a few weeks ago, Tiger hit a ball in a tree and had to take a penalty stroke. Well, Sergio hit his ball in a tree, climbed up, took a wedge, and hit it from the tree landing safely in the fairway. It’s almost hard to believe, but the video (courtesy of the PGA TOUR) is proof that with a little imagination, you can hit any shot you want. Watch!

Crazy, right? Anyway, I am glad to see Tiger playing well. Better yet, I am glad to see Tiger putting well. That has been something he has been struggling with, and if he is putting like that, he will win several more times this year. He needs to win at least one major this year, as he tries to catch Jack Nicklaus. But I am not worried about that, I am just worried about his win today. Way to go, Tiger. Feels good to have you at the top!
