Earlier this week I wrote a blog post about Dirty Tequila. I mentioned Fireball Whiskey in that post, but I forgot to mention another spirit that I recently tried. It’s a new flavor from SKYY Vodka. It is a part of their SKYY INFUSIONS line and joins a list of other flavors including:
- Wild Strawberry
- Coconut
- Dragon Fruit
- Blood Orange
- Ginger
- Pineapple
- Passion Fruit
- Cherry
- Grape
- Raspberry
- Citrus
The new flavor is called Moscato Grape, and brings a new meaning to flavored vodkas. I have been on a flavors kick lately, and have been experimenting trying to come up with new and unique recipes for cocktails. Making cocktails is more fun than taking shots. Plus, it gives me a chance to enjoy my drink over a longer period of time.
I tried the vodka by itself, and it was incredible. You would never know it was vodka. Then I tried a few different cocktails with the stuff. I love hanging out at Total Wine & More in Scottsdale. They always have fun tastings on the weekends. The first cocktail I tried was a Moscato Fizz. Then I tried a Moscato Martini. I finished things off with a Moscato Blitz. The Moscato Blitz is a shot, but it’s WAY better than taking a shot of straight vodka. If you want to make these drinks at home, check out the recipes below.
Moscato Fizz
2oz Moscato Grape
2oz Sprite
Squeeze of lemon
Mix ingredients over ice and garnish with a pick of grapes. For a lighter alternative, mix Moscato with equal parts Sprite and club soda.
They didn’t have the pick of grapes at the tasting, but that sounds like a fun garnish for a drink. I might order one of those tonight just so I can see the grapes in action!
Moscato Martini
2oz Moscato Grape
1oz fresh lime juice
Shake with ice and strain into a martini glass.
That’s a pretty basic cocktail, but the powerful grape flavors in the vodka will have you sucking these back by the pool in no time.
Moscato Blitz
1½oz Moscato Grape
½oz pineapple juice
Mix ingredients with ice in a shaker and pour into a shot glass. Serve with a lime wedge.
That is the best flavor of the three cocktails that I tried. I found that it was better without sucking the lime wedge and simply squeezing some of the juices into the shot glass before taking the shot.
SKYY Infusions Moscato Grape
As flavors become more popular, look for big brands like Smirnoff, SKYY, and Grey Goose to begin experimenting with different flavors. While browsing the vodka aisles at Total Wine I saw several new flavors including candy bar, salty watermelon, and sweet green tea. If there is a flavor that you have wanted to try, chances are it’s out there!
The next time you are at a liquor store, grab a bottle of the SKYY Moscato Grape. It’s good. Oh, and remember… please party responsibility!
