Whirlwind Golf Club at Wild Horse Pass: How many steps?

Whirlwind Golf Club at Wild Horse Pass: How many steps?

Two weeks ago I decided to play Whirlwind Golf Club at Wild Horse Pass. They have 36 holes at Whirlwind, and I had only played each course once. In an effort to track my steps and miles, I booked a tee time on Devil’s Claw.

When I got to the golf course, the parking lot was packed. There was an event on Cattail, the other golf course at Whirlwind. I was playing around noon, so I headed to the range to hit some balls. When it was my time to tee off, I was alone. I hadn’t played 18 holes by myself for ages, and it was an awesome round of golf. It helps that I played pretty good. I didn’t make any birdies, but I made 2 bogeys and 16 pars. Right?! The first bogey came on a par 5. I crushed my drive, had 267 to the middle of the green, and topped a 3 wood. But I don’t want to talk about it!

By the time the round was over, it didn’t feel like I had walked all that much. Boy, was I mistaken! Again, the focus of the round was to count the steps and miles, and it ended up being 13,499 steps for a total of 6.01 miles. It never felt like I had walked 6 miles… Whirlwind is an easy course to walk. They even hooked me up with a push cart that I used to make it easier on my back. The next weekend I booked a tee time to play Cattail.

For that round, my buddy Matt joined me. My neighbor Corey plays golf and I talked him into playing with us, too. It was a bit hotter on that Sunday, and the course is a bit longer. Cattail ended up being 15,426 steps for a total of 6.88 miles. It felt so much longer than that… But it was hot, so I blame the temperature. I played pretty good on that course, too, shooting 74 with a few birdies and bogeys on the card. As Matt likes to say, “Make less bogeys.”

Math is hard, but I added everything up for you. Combined, Whirlwind Golf Club at Wild Horse Pass is 28,925 steps for a grand total of 12.89 miles.

I just love Whirlwind Golf Club. The courses are always in great shape, the service is unforgettable, and the practice facility is world class. I don’t gamble, but Wild Horse Pass Hotel & Casino is right there, so if you wanted to play the slots, that is an option. I’ve had the chance to stay at the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort & Spa, also at Whirlwind Golf Club, and it is spectacular. Just a great operation and one that I can’t wait to revisit soon. The hardest part will be deciding which course to play…
