About the Author
I am always changing as an author. I have been writing since I can remember and even recall having parent and teacher conferences to discuss my inability to pay attention in class as I would rather write fiction in my notebook. I remember the days, as far back as the fifth grade, where I would grab a topic and just start writing. I would pick, let’s say, Troy Aikman, and make up some random story about him, his career, and his daily activities. The stories were short, one page at most, and over time I just collected a series of short stories. This eventually lead into writing poetry and lyrics for songs that will never be played. Once I got to college I was challenged in creative writing courses to think outside the box.
This training and progression lead me to the world of writing opinions. I was luck enough to become a member of the Blog Squad for the once known InTake Magazine. It has since changed it’s name to Indy.com Magazine and now on to a nationally known magazine as Metromix Magazine. I have also been fortunate enough to be a staff writer for Pulse Magazine as well as Indy Arts Magazine. I am also a staff writer for the online music magazine Indyconcerts.com. My talents have been stretched and I have had experience writing for the masses for over five years.
Over the last three years I have been working on my first fiction novel. I write, edit, and wait only to pick back up the lap top six or twelve months later to find myself doing the same thing. It is not that I lose focus but rather that I have more things on my plate and a higher set of priorities. One day that novel will be finished and I will either self publish or put it on Twitter for you all to read, but for now it sits as a single file on my jump drive.
As a designer I have received my training from both Marian University (formerly known as Marian College) and then was lucky enough to study under some of the most talented artists I have ever met at the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology on the IUPUI campus in downtown, Indianapolis. Since I have moved into the work force after receiving two degrees from Purdue University in computer engineering and compute graphics technology. While my degree was one of the hardest things that I have ever done, I realize now that it was only a sheet of paper to open someone’s eyes in an interview. That piece of paper did nothing but the connections that I have built and the relationships that I have formed in my years of college are life long and will never come close to the education that I received in those class rooms.
The work that I have been doing in social media over the last five years has led me to where I am today. I slowly am meeting more and more fellow members of this massive community and attaching myself to the ones that truly “get” the power of social media. Tools like Twitter and Facebook are part of this social media mold, but they are only a part of the online community that makes up this epic set of connections. The way that social media works on the surface is pretty simple but a few levels deeper you can start to see how it is changing communication. People are lazy, and are getting lazier every day, and it is starting to get to the point where if you can not say what you need to say in 140 character it is too long.
About this Blog
This blog was started in the fall of 2008 and has slowly progressed into a collection of pop culture articles ranging in topics from golf and Tiger Woods to graphic design and my abstract artwork. I hold no bearing to one niche market nor does this blog ever plan to go that route. I write on a multitude of topics to one, give myself more options to chose from, but to also peak the interest of various demographics. There are some blogs out there that focus on a single topic such as social media or sports like tennis or football. I have nothing against these blogs, and I actually tend to read many blogs of this nature on a daily basis, but that is simply not the writing style for me. I could be inspired on Monday to write about the current state of the economy and then the very next day be inspired to write about the latest album release from Kanye West. I do not discriminate with any of my blog topics and encourage ideas to be thrown my way if there is something that I have not talked about that you want to read my thoughts on.
My blog is very open, honest, and opinionated. I try to make it fit the branding of being an opinionated realist. I do not think that I am always right, and I base everything that I say off of facts and research that either I have done myself or that has been done by a trusted source. If I ever do make a mistake in my blog, which I have done in the past, I beg of you to comment on my mistakes. I will attend to each one of them in a professional and timely manner and will admit to all of my errors. I am not perfect, nor do I think that the thoughts expressed here are either, and will admit to any faults or misguided facts that you may find.
This blog is always growing, changing, and adapting to better fit current design and social media standards. I have begun to build a brand around myself and am beginning to showcase all of my work on my blog. This includes my writing, my 2D design skills, web design that I have done, and all of my abstract work that I have completed over the years. Every day I am building a larger following and increasing my subscriptions through my RSS feed. I am excited that you are able to read my thoughts. I do not want you to agree with everything that I write and I have a tendency to write on subjects that I know will challenge your thought processes. I challenge you to think. I am quick to write my thoughts but I will not publish without backing everything I say. I want to personally thank you for your time, comments, and thoughts on this blog as well as the blogs under my fellow bloggers category. As humans we are always growing and always evolving. A personal favorite quote of mine says it all as the great Leonardo da Vinci once said, “I am always learning.”
