When I started my career at professional imavex, I remember Steve asking me, “Do you have any questions for us?” I did… I asked about their partnership with Troon. I knew about Troon, but didn’t know how closely they worked together. After 5 years at imavex, I moved to Scottsdale, Arizona to “find greener pastures,” eventually taking a job at Gannett. From there, I stayed in contact with guys like Cody and Brett, eventually accepting a job at Troon as their Digital Communications Manager.
I’ve been with Troon for 3 years now, bought a house and have spent my time working, working out and playing golf. Over the last few months, I’ve been thinking about my career, and what steps I need to take to becoming a general manager. I kept hearing, “You need experience. You need to be in the field. You need to be at a facility!” I took that advice to heart, and raised my hand for a position at The Reserve Club at Woodside Plantation in Aiken, South Carolina. That position didn’t make sense, and I started having conversations about joining the team at Abu Dhabi Golf Club/Saadiyat Beach Golf Club in Abu Dhabi. That didn’t make sense, either… Back to square one.
A few weeks ago another position caught my eye. I raised my hand for that, spent some time thinking about the position and discussing it with Sheryl, and eventually had a conversation with the Club’s general manager. This position seemed too good to be true. This particular facility was designed by Greg Norman, hosts an LPGA Tour event, a PGA TOUR event, and features 36 holes of championship golf. I did additional research, and earlier this week was offered the job…
I am happy to announce that I have accepted a position at Tiburón Golf Club in Naples, Florida!!! Sheryl and I will be packing up and moving to Naples in a few weeks, where I will be working closely with the team during the CME Group Tour Championship shortly followed by the Franklin Templeton Shootout. They also just finished renovating the Gold Course and are soon starting a renovation on the Black Course. Needless to say, there are a lot of exciting things happening at Tiburón and I can’t wait to join the team.
When I started at imavex many moons ago, I had no idea where that would take me. But I am excited for our next adventure, and look forward being in Naples. I’ve never been, but hear it is similar to Scottsdale. There are so many people I would like to thank… I wouldn’t even know where to start. I am blessed to be where I am today, and can’t wait to settle in in Florida. Don’t worry; I am still a Troon employee… This stays in the family. Florida, are you ready for me? We’re coming in hot!
Good luck man
Well now I will have more of a chance of seeing you since my family is in Florida (my native home). Congratulations to you. I’m so happy for you! And a little jealous of your new proximity to the beach.
Thank you so much! Was working on it for several weeks and am already here! Back on Monday, though, to finish packing. Then to San Diego then driving from Scottsdale to Naples. VERY excited for this new opportunity. You moved and things seem to be working out pretty well. Come visit!

Jim, thank you for your support. I would recommend visiting http://www.trooncareers.com to learn more about opportunities at Troon and Troon-affiliated facilities worldwide. If you find something you like, let me know and I will make sure the appropriate person sees your interest. What club were you at in Germany? I have a dear friend that lives in Berlin.
Thanks again for your support and I hope to hear from you soon.
