Classically trained in piano, LA-based singer/songwriter Julia Othmer will be previewing new songs at her forthcoming club show Thursday, December 9 at Rockwood Music Hall. Julia’s powerful voice, cathartic piano-playing and uncompromisingly intimate lyrics invite a close emotional connection that leave her audiences haunted.
Evocative and soulful, Julia’s live shows are beginning to earn her a growing cult following. Julia will perform a series of club shows in LA and New York before releasing a new single in late 2010 and new music in 2011.
After sharing the stage with Regina Spektor and Amos Lee, Julia performed on Lilith 2010 this summer. “I was honored to play alongside Emmylou Harris who has been a huge inspiration for me,” she explains. “I’m always pushing my boundaries, and I’m moved by other musicians and artists who do the same.”
Asked about her stage show, “The piano is my partner on stage. There’s a vast range of expression from beating, tickling, touching or smashing the keys for my approach, Julia adds. “Sometimes I write on guitar and I play the flute, but the piano is where I feel grounded.”
