Artist Interview: 1-on-1 with UFO Project

Artist Interview: 1-on-1 with UFO Project

A few months ago UFO Project released their EP Leto on Circus Records. Since they’ve dropped a laundry list of singles including “Scream,” “Kenzo” and “Faster.” I love their sound and can’t wait to hear what they come up with next. To learn more I reached out for an interview and was excited to learn more about this dynamic Spanish duo. It is my pleasure to introduce you to UFO Project.

I’m digging your new single. Tell me more about “Faster.”
“Faster” is a track with nice and strong melodies that match perfectly with a sweet vocal before the drop that comes full of powerful basslines and synths. The track was recorded in November. We had the idea and “Faster” is the result.

They’ve been making a lot of noise lately. No pun intended. Tell me more about your experience working with Circus Records.
Circus Records is simply AMAZING. From the start they have been kind to us, and very professional. It is easy to work with a team like this and we hope stay with them for a long time.

You guys are based in Spain. What is the music scene like there and what are some of your favorite places to see a show?
The music scene in Spain is growing a lot (but slowly). We have some really popular festivals like Dreambeach Villaricos, Sónar Barcelona or Medusa Sun Beach… And Ibiza. Everybody knows Ibiza. There are no words to describe what Ibiza means to all the musical scenes around the world.

How did you guys meet and when did you know you wanted to produce dance music together?
There were 1,400 kilometers between us and in 2007 a friend of ours introduced us to each other. We connected instantly because we like similar music genres, so we started musical journey together. Our first step as a “band” was creating “Breakbeat Hardcore.” We published some 12″ records after that. Several months later we tried to open our mind musically and started making beats of a lot of genres. We learned how to enjoy recording a lot of tracks, feeling the versatility of music. It’s impossible for us know the style or genre of our next track today to be honest.

What is Night Owl Radio?
Night Owl Radio is a radio show hosted by Pasquale Rotella, owner of Insomniac. This show includes all kinds of electronic music and a lot of featuring. We used to listen all the podcast to be updated with all the hottest tracks.

Tell me more about your relationship with Rephlektor Inkorporated and working with Nina and Justin.
Rephlektor Inkorporated is affiliated with Circus Records and they’re doing such fantastic work! They’ve helped us share our music and expand our frontiers.

What can fans expect from a live performance?
Expect to dance nonstop during the DJ set. We’re working and setting a live show that should be ready very, very soon.

You had a lot of success with “Girls N Money” back in the day. You’ve released a lot of singles. Any plans for another album or an EP in the near future?
“Girls N Money” was a hit. We received a lot of support from people out the “breakbeat bubble” and from that moment we started making other kinds of beats that interest us.

Our goal for this year is release some EPs and maybe, the next year, our new album. First of all we need to close our unfinished projects and then we have to think about the best options to get the more success.

Martin Garrix has been at the top for the last 2 years. What are your thoughts on the DJ Mag Top 100 and as a DJ, do you take that list serious or is it just a popularity contest for you?
There are a lot of artists with important hits on the list but, this kind of “list” deserves our respect. That’s not our focus at the moment.

Leto had support from some big names including Knife Party and 12th Planet. Tell me more about that release and the support you saw from your peers.
We have the support of biggest and international artists that we could never imagine, names as Knife Party, 12th Planet, Jauz, Alison Wonderland and our reaction was… “OMG! Did he play our track, for real?”

Leto was released to “hunt” this kind of support and put forth the first step to a new way of different kinds of music. We are very happy with the results.

Tell me about your connection to DEADBEATS.
DEADBEATS was a big reward to our work. We have to say thanks to our friend Hamilton. He was the first person who heard “Shorty Come My Way” and he felt that track match perfectly with the DEADBEATS vibes. Hamilton introduces to DEADBEATS and made a good connection remixing “DNA” from Zeds Dead featuring Jadakiss and Styles P.

They are heavyweights in the electronic music scene, always working with the biggest producers of the moment and making some serious and powerful beats. Maybe, in the future, we will release a track under DEADBEATS.

What’s next for UFO Project?
UFO doesn’t stop, we never stop. Singles, EPs or collabs are always under the radar. There’re a lot of breakbeat fans asking us for more productions as the earlier days so, BB fans BE CLOSE TO OUR SOCIALS, surprises coming soon.

We are here to make big big noise and to do exceptional things. We need the support of our fans (as today). We put all the love and energies to this Project.

Thank you guys for doing this. That was fun! In all of the interview I do, I always give the artist the last word. Go.
Thanks to you Ricky. We really appreciate your support. This is a big opportunity to us and you only need to ring us for the first time, UFO it’s here for you.
