Artist Interview: 1-on-1 with Vessbroz

Artist Interview: 1-on-1 with Vessbroz

Vessbroz, Persian DJ/producer and TikToker brothers based in The Netherlands, are focused and FAR from finished. They are killing it on Instagram and recently hosted the TikTok Music Festival featuring Loose Keys, Grimix and Dennis Cartier. Oh, and don’t miss their DJ set LIVE from prison. Amazing! Their new single “Vivimus” is out now on Revealed Recordings.

I didn’t know much about these guys, but used this interview to learn more about their new single and what live is like in Holland. You can also learn more about the brothers here. Anyway, I love their new single and it was an honor spending time with them. It is my pleasure to introduce you to Vessbroz.

You’ve worked with several different record labels including Revealed Recordings, Sony Music Entertainment and Spinnin’ Records. Does the experience change from one label to the next? And are you looking for labels or are they coming to you?
Yes, some labels care more about the releases then others. One record label will just look at it as another song to release, the other one makes a lot of promotional effort for it.

We usually approach the labels. First we create the song, then we think about what label would fit to it and after we approach them. Sometimes a label asks after a release if we can send more songs to release, or some record labels have a follow up in their contract. If the experience is good, we love to release more songs on one label!

Where did the name Vessbroz come from?
First our name was just Brothers. But apparently there was a band from the United States who had the same name so we had to change it. And so it became Vessbroz, where Vess stands for vessel; blood brothers and like a vessel, always on the go and broz stands for brothers.

My wife and I LOVE The Netherlands. A lot of big names are coming from there. What is it like living there and what are some of the best clubs to visit?
The Netherlands is amazing indeed! Everything is close by, you can drive from the south to the north within a max of four hours. The Dutch people are really friendly and enthusiastic. One of the only things we needed to get used to, is the fact everything (like shops, restaurants, etc.) close pretty early. That was different living in Malaysia (where we lived before).

Good question! I think Shelter Amsterdam is one of our favorites, they have an amazing vibe.

Tell me more about your single “Higher” featuring Juicy M. How did you connect with her and where did you produce that video? I love it!
At the beginning of our career we watched Juicy M’s DJ sets on YouTube which inspired us a lot. So last year we just sent her a message if she wanted to work together with us on a song. She really liked the song and so we finished it together.

Actually we produced the music video in- and around our home in Waalwijk! Juicy M came to our home so everything we filmed was in the backyard, neighbour’s house and surrounding patios. That’s the best thing about our place. We live in the beautiful countryside of The Netherlands where we don’t have any direct neighbors, so we can make as much noise as we want! And we even have peacocks, chicken and a donkey in our backyard. (Laughs.)

Your new single “Vivimus” is out now on Revealed Recordings. Tell me more about that single and what it was like working with Tim Hox.
It was cool working with Tim Hox! He came to our studio with his whole computer under his arm, so that was a laugh to start with. We had some pretty intense producing days but also had so much fun and played games.

What are you guys listening to when you’re not producing music?
Actually we like a lot of genres! But most typical would be that we love artists like Dolly Parton and Michael Jackson. But in general we love to listen to 80s music.

I’m always curious what headphones DJs are using. I’m not a DJ, but I love Bose headphones. What is around your neck?
We love the headphones of Pioneer. They sponsored us a couple of years ago with customized headphones that we use every day and are still working amazingly good. That’s quality right?!

You guys are active on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube… TikTok. Who is managing all of that content?
Next to making music we love to make content for social media, especially TikTok! So all the content that we post, we provide ourselves. We’re always up to date about the most common trends in mostly TikTok, so also our main channel we manage ourselves. On the other channels we have a team of interns and our manager to take care of it, which saves a lot of time to focus on making music.

You guys are an American Billboard Top 40 artist. What does that sort of recognition mean to you? Do you plan for something like that or does it just happen based on the music you are producing?
Actually it just happened! We were really lucky. At that point we were just starting to make music for 1 or 2 years. We got signed for an album on Sony Music and with one of the songs, called “Nothing”, we got picked up and came into the Billboard Top 40. Of course we were incredibly happy at that time, but looking back it came too early in our career. We were not ready for it and therefore couldn’t maximize the result. We’re still really proud of it though! But we know this is just a beginning, next step would be a GRAMMY!

Listening to “One Kiss Good Night” right now… My buddy Russell loves the beat and my wife is bobbing her head. Tell me more about that single and your songwriting process. Where do you come up with the idea for a new track?
So nice to hear you all like it so much! It went very smoothly to say. Our collabing artists, Hiddeki and KAORU, sent us the idea. We listened to it and we saw potential but needed a lot of improvement. After that the collabing artists and we worked more on the song and looked for a vocalist. Once we found him we wrote the lyrics and perfect the singer melody together.

After the vocals were ready we finalised the vocal editing, we mixed and mastered the song until it was really to be released on Future House Music!

I know you just released “Vivimus” but plans for another release anytime soon?
Yes, definitely! Last month HEXAGON released our track called “We Are The People”. We love that track! It’s about the voice of people trying to fight for their rights. It’s really relatable to our live story and the genre is something that we’ve been lately experimenting with.

You guys have a mailing list on your website. How many subscribers do you have and how often are you emailing folks? What sort of content are you sending out?
Yes, we’re very happy with our network! We do have a mailing list with people that we send mails when we have new releases. The lists exists out of DJs, Spotify curators, radio stations, fans, influencers, etc. And it keeps adding more every day!

The pandemic seems to be behind us. Any plans for a tour this spring/summer?
Our daily plan for the last couple of months has been our DJ set on TikTok where we reach 20-60k unique viewers every night. So we definitely want to keep doing that. Besides we have some plans to play in Portugal, Ibiza and of course The Netherlands!

Where can folks at home learn more about Vessbroz?
On mostly every popular social platform! Our funny side is more on TikTok, but on the other platforms we’re combining it with music. On YouTube we have interviews and instruction videos about the dance industry/music production and on Instagram we try to answer all messages.

What’s next for Vessbroz?
We want to keep growing on TikTok! Besides, we’re ready to conquer the world with touring and currently we’re working on a new sound which we call the Vessbroz-sound 4.0. So lots of things coming up soon, I would say stay tuned!

Thank you guys for doing this. That was fun! In all of the interviews I do, I always give the artist the last word. Go.
Thanks for having us Ricky and also thank your wife for her enthusiasm as well!
