Sikdope releases new hard-hitting track “I Got Lost In Berlin” + Exclusive Interview

Sikdope is back with a new release “I Got Lost In Berlin” which is said to be inspired by Love Parade and his first visit to the mecca of techno and industrial architecture.

I Got Lost In Berlin

Sikdope is certainly not one to sleep on. The Polish artist flexes his production prowess by showcasing his style from vicious bass-house to radio-ready progressive cuts to futuristic trap sensibilities, so he’s always keeping everyone guessing. No matter what angle he’s taking, his music is guaranteed to get the crowd going.

The beatsmith is back on Spinnin’ Records with his new single “I Got Lost In Berlin”, an underground-influenced track inspired by his very first trip to the capital city of Germany. Sikdope has a reputation for being a chameleon in the studio, and this time he breaks out cinematic, ominous opening melodies with a gravelly voice over and an intense drop that’s not for the faint of heart. “I Got Lost in Berlin” pays homage to some nostalgic techno beats and the famous Love Parade festival but with a modern flair, making for the perfect track to transport you to the secretive, selective, and dark clubs of this multifaceted city. Press play and prepare to get lost in Sikdope’s world for yourself.

“Getting lost in the local music scene, architecture, and food. The main drop sound and whistle fillers have been inspired by the old school music festival Love Parade I think that many people who are clubbing in Berlin are getting lost in music because time passes slowly there,” says Sikdope

This song is SO good. After listening to this single three or four times, I did some digging to learned his real name is Dawid Kabaciński. Oh, and he’s Polish. We have close friends in Berlin and I used to live in Poland… It was a sign! Dawid is working with Unfolded PR on this release, so I reached out for an interview.

As Sheryl and I start planning our next European adventure, music like this is on full blast at home. Not sure if our German friends have heard of him, but this interview was fun. As you’re reading this, I suggest you turn on “I Got Lost In Berlin” for the full experience. Because it is my pleasure to introduce you to Sikdope.

Digging your new single “I Got Lost In Berlin”. We have good friends that live in Berlin. Tell me more about that release and the inspiration behind the single.
I live super close to Berlin, so naturally I’m visiting a lot. The single is my kind of tribute to the city. It’s really easy to get “lost” there, exploring amazing food, club culture and scene.

Where did Sikdope come from? That’s such a unique name!
It’s a pretty funny story, when I was starting my journey as a music producer back in 2011, I showed a couple of my tunes to one of my good friends. His reaction was pretty much like, “this is so sick and dope,” so I thought, hey, why not just call myself SIKDOPE.

“I Got Lost In Berlin” is out now on Spinnin’ Records. What was it like working with them and are you looking for labels or do they come to you? I always wonder how that works for a DJ.
I have been working with many labels in the past years, but Spinnin’ is always top notch when it comes to releasing music. Their team is always helpful in brainstorming marketing ideas with my management. Usually when we pitch them music they have some constructive notes about what to get rid of or to change in the tune, with this one. They loved it from the first hearing and there were no changes from the demo they heard to the release you can enjoy now.

You are from Poland. I spent a semester teaching in Poznań and Rzeszów. Where are you based and what are some of your favorite places to see a show?
I’m based up North, people usually recognize cities from Poland like Warsaw, Poznań or Kraków, but there are so much more interesting places to visit and enjoy local housing like “kaszuby” region or “Mazury” or South Poland where you can find astonishing mountain hiking trails especially during Spring or Summer time.

Speaking of Poland, what is your favorite Polish vodka? I’m partial to Wyborowa Klasyczna, Żubrówka, and J.A. Baczewski Vodka. Na Zdrowie!
(Laughs.) Na Zdrowie! Honestly, my favorite Polish vodka is Belvedere never gave me a hangover.

Back to Berlin. What are some of your favorite nightclubs in town?
I love the club scene in Germany in general. I think my favorite club is Bootshaus in Cologne, but my favorite Kebab place is in Berlin! It’s called Mustafa’s Gemüse Kebap the line is at least 45 minutes, but it’s totally worth it, go try it!

“I Got Lost In Berlin” is out now on Spinnin’ Records. There are a lot of record labels out there. Are you going out to find a label to sign you or do they come to you?
We usually send stuff around to labels, but lately we decided to stick with Spinnin’ for most of my releases as they do an amazing job.

What headphones are around your neck? I’m always curious what brand DJs use.
I’m using V-MODA Headphones on stage and Focal Headphones in my studio.

It looks like you have a lot of fun on stage. Do you ever make a mistake in all that chaos? If you do, how do you recover?
Yes, I’m super energetic and active on stage because I really do enjoy the music I play! I’m doing this for such a long time that even if the mistake will happen people won’t even recognize. But sometimes there are things out of your reach, like, for example, broken CDJs or a soundsystem, which you cannot fix on the go, so you need to improvise. That’s why traveling with a tour manager is really important to get those things in check.

I know you just released “I Got Lost In Berlin” but when can we expect your next single?
I have so much unreleased music that I could literally release something every week, but I want to slowly digest stuff I’m releasing so I’m aiming for a tune once every month or two.

Summer is just around the corner. Are you planning a big tour this year?
Yes, you can expect me in Asia, the USA, and Europe! Come through.

What else can you tell me about Sikdope? I am eager for more music!
Fun Fact: I listen to everything except EDM during my free time. (Laughs.) When you spend so many hours listening to stuff people send you to your promo email, playing club shows your brain is exhausted. I also feel like taking inspirations from other genres can be beneficial for you as an artist.

Thanks for doing this, man. In all of the interviews I do, I always give the artist the last word. Go.
Stay healthy, take care of your family, realize what’s important in life, but also enjoy every single bit of it. And the most important thing, be whatever the hell you wanna be!
