John Dahlbäck has been a consistently respected producer in the electronic music scene for nearly a decade now, with productions spanning from deep and techy, to progressive and chunky, and now finally, with his latest single One Last Ride, outright bold and joyful. This new school ballad features goosebump-provoking vocals from fellow Swede Erik Hassle surrounded by airy pumping synths creating an epic crossover hit.
The remix package is superb. Felix Cartal, a master of dark, grungy bass, delivers his version with chopped up vocals laced throughout the overbearing and glitchy “punch-to-the-gut” rough style while maintaining the uplifting original melody in the breakdown of the song. It’s been a mainstay in Tiësto’s recent sets. Meanwhile, Tommy Trash turns the track into a proper club banger with his crisp production style with a pure bred electro house bassline that could please the crowds at both Pacha and Fabric. Tommy’s remix first gained the world’s attention when Sebastian Ingrosso dropped it into Swedish House Mafia’s takeover of Pete Tong’s Radio 1 show. Finally, My Digital Enemy creates a tropical jam; the jungle beat, horns and big bass drums will have hips shaking worldwide.
2011 has been John Dahlback’s most prolific year; packed with a full global tour schedule and new releases on Toolroom, Spinnin’, Defected, Versuz, Big Beat/Atlantic NEWS, Universal GAS, Universal Nordic, Ministry Of Sound Australia and One Love/Sony Australia. He’s also remixed Lady Gaga, Nicole Featuring 50 Cent, Skylar Gray, David Morales and Sneaky Soundsystem, among others. John is prepping for an even busier 2012 with the January release of a mix CD for Toolroom Records and brand new singles each month thereafter.
