This dude is from Miami, but he is producing some unforgettable music. He has worked with countless record labels, too, having release work on Size Records, Mixmash Records, Universal Music, Republic Records… The list goes on. He has a new single out with Celeda called “The Underground” and is doing what he can to be heard. I heard him and asked for an exclusive interview with him. He is considered the “Sound of Miami” and shows no signs of slowing down. It is my pleasure to introduce Henrix.
You are based in Miami. Had you had the chance to experience Miami Music Week yet?
Yes, I have. I’ve been attending and DJing at the events for almost ten years now
You have worked with several record labels. Do you go looking for labels to work with, or do they find you?
It depends. Sometimes they come, but a lot of times they don’t know If I’ve recently finished a track or not so I’ll send it out to labels once its done and see which is best for me at the time.
What is the deal with the white lion on your Twitter profile?
(Laughs.) Mot much of a “deal;” I’m really into art and I thought it was a nice picture. Plus the lion is the king of the jungle, right? I guess it inspires me to be best!
Speaking of Miami, what are some of your favorite beaches in Little Cuba?
I guess South Beach is the best for me. There’s always a lot going on and in the summer it is really nice.
As a DJ, what does the DJ Mag Top 100 mean to you? Would being on that list help you get more gigs?
I guess it would be cool to be on there, but it doesn’t really matter to me. As far as the gigs, I’m sure it would help, but I don’t want to get gigs based on a poll that doesn’t really mean how good you are as a DJ or producer. I’ve seen so many DJs on there that no one has ever heard of and also a lot of DJ/producers that sell lots of records and make great music not on the list.
Speaking of the DJ Mag Top 100, in your opinion, who is the #1 DJ in the world? I like Armin van Buuren, personally!
That’s a hard one, honestly. (Laughs.) I think Eric Prydz is my favorite, but I also like, A-Trak, Laidback Luke and Steve Angello.
You have a lot of singles out right now. Any thoughts on an artist album?
The thought has crossed my mind. An album is a different process, though. It is more than just dance tracks. There’s so much more to it than putting out ten tracks that sound like singles. Everything has to flow correctly.
Las Vegas has become a center for dance music in the United States. What are some of your favorite clubs in Sin City?
I have a residency at LIGHT, and that’s my favorite spot. It’s an amazing venue, and really fun to play at.
What’s next for Henrix?
Lots of things! A lot of new music and new shows coming up and also different projects that I’m in the middle of working on that I can’t wait to reveal. Looking forward to the future!
Thank you so much for doing this. In all of the interviews I do, I always give the artist the last word. Go.
“If they knew how much work went into it , they wouldn’t call it genius.”
