If you listen to dance music, you would know the name Ronny Schneider aka Ronski Speed. Originally from Germany, this guy has been producing some of the most uplifting trance since 1997 and is back with a brand new album titled Evolve. Names like Paul van Dyk and Armin van Buuren have supported this guy over the years, and for good reason. His new album is out now on Kyau & Albert’s Euphonic Records and I was so impressed with it, I just had to learn more. This interview was so much fun for me. It is my pleasure to introduce you to Ronski Speed.
Your name is Ronny Neumann. Where did the name Ronski Speed come from?
The name came up when I was searching for a pseudonym and it is base on my name Ronny and he 80s band Bronski Beat.
Tell me more about your new album Evolve.
It was time to release the creative output that I’ve collected in the last 5 years since the last album. I wanted to create a real pure straight forward trance album with all the different genres of trance. Many songs are based on the things I saw and did in the last few years.
This is your third album. Tell me more about the others and how you’ve evolved as an artist over the years.
I would say that I evolved as a person and artist. I always experimented with the styles and sounds and this still you can hear on the new album. It should never be boring and of course I love to work with vocalists and vocals at all such like Aruna, Lucy Saunders and Gracie Ho.
You’ve been on the DJ Mag Top 100 a few times. What does being on that list mean do you as an artist? Does being on the list help you land better/bigger gigs?
This list means basically nothing anymore.
It seems like every DJ has a podcast. Tell me more about RNM Sessions.
I do 2 monthly shows on DI.FM and AH.FM 2 hours and 1 hour True To Trance Show for over fifteen years now. I want that people can listen my latest stuff and the tracks I like the most.
There are 20 tracks on Evolve. Do you have a favorite?
“Room 346” dedicated to my new born daughter and it is coming straight from the heart and is a lovely opener.
Who are some of your biggest influences?
Above & Beyond, Paul van Dyk, Chicane and BT. Lately there are not so many inspiring newcomers.
You collaborated with several artists on this album. Names like Alan Morris, Ciaran McAulay, Amir Hussain, and Syntrobic litter this release. What was it like working with all of these artists? How do you decide whom to work with on a track?
I was looking for my favorite producers at the moment and started to create tracks with them. It was very cool and inspiring to work with such talented guys.
You’ve had the chance to visit some of the most remote locations in the world. Where do you like to travel and what are some of your favorite places to play?
Oh, there are so many last year I loved. San Francisco and Los Angeles besides China and Singapore and Thailand and not to forget Germany and Czech have great vibes with some smaller venues.
What’s next for Ronski Speed?
Taking care of my baby and touring. Next gigs are coming in Germany, Czech, Los Angeles and Seattle. And of course releases from my album with remixes.
Thank you for doing this, man. In all of the interviews I do, I always give my artist the last word. Go.
Thanks so much and I hope you all keep being inspired by good music.
