BEAUZ Debut on Purple Fly with Feel-Good Vocal House Single “Crocodiles” with LODATO + Exclusive Interview

Artists: BEAUZ, LODATO
Title: “Crocodiles” (feat. Crooked Bangs)
Label: Purple Fly
Release date: January 13, 2023

Asian American brother duo BEAUZ teams up with chart-topping NYC-based producer LODATO and Dutch singer/songwriter Crooked Bangs for their new single “Crocodiles”, out on the NFT-backed Purple Fly.

Crocodiles

The artists pair breezy, organic melodies with a strong and dynamic bassline to create a feel-good and yet lively track, while Crooked Bangs’ vocals add a playful and yet powerful element to the track. Overall, “Crocodiles” packs an emotive punch with its theme of always fighting for true love (and Peter Pan-esque lyrics to go with it) while keeping the sound irreverent and fun. Crooked Bangs is the digital avatar of PollyAnna, who has previously worked with Steve Aoki, Armin van Buuren, Timmy Trumpet, R3HAB, Hardwell, and Tchami. “Crocodiles” adds to Purple Fly’s diverse catalog, proving once again that the label stays light on their feet and at the forefront of cutting-edge music.

I wasn’t familiar with BEAUZ until this single was released. But I did some digging, enjoyed their sound, and quickly learned they are a DJ Mag Top 100 DJ duo. They are currently 53 on that last, behind Blasterjaxx and ahead of Diego Miranda.

They are working with Unfolded PR, so I reached out to learn more. They had a short break after releasing “Crocodiles” so I jumped at the chance to dive down the rabbit hole. This is a short interview, but it was a pleasure getting to know them. It is my pleasure to introduce you to BEAUZ.

I am obsessed with your new single “Crocodiles”. Tell me more about that release, who wrote the lyrics and who is that singing? SO good!!!
We’re super happy about the reception of “Crocodiles”! Our recent release schedule is like a gradual evolution guiding and slowly easing our listeners into our new music. We’re always thinking of ways to spice things up and cook up the freshest music, at the same time seeking to retain qualities that are timeless.

I’m seeing a lot of singles and an EP. Any plans to release a full length album in the New Year?
We will definitely be releasing one or two EPs this year. However, we feel like the time for a full length album isn’t here yet. It’s close, but still brewing. The EP or EPs we plan to release will have strong themes and we’re confident that our fans will be satisfied.

Speaking of singles, “Caffeine” is fire. LOVE that beat! What is your process for writing a new song? Do you sit down with a yellow pad or do sounds just come to you?
Thanks for the kind words! We actually started the “Caffeine” project in 2020 and have been rocking the prototype in our sets for a while. However, it’s not until two months before its official release that it reached its final form. I knew the melody was gold, but the sounds weren’t 100%. Fortunately, I progressed quite a bit as a result of locking myself in the studio in 2021, so I reinvented the project and it became one of my proudest mixing and mastering works as well as a crowd favorite.

What can fans expect from seeing you live? Any plans for a tour this year?
For us, touring and hanging out with our fans is one of the best parts about being an artist. A lot of fans tell us they’ve heard of our music before, but it’s not until they’ve met and hung out with us that they really identify and fall in love with our music. We are extremely grateful to live an extraordinary life full of surprises and valuable lessons. Those experiences enable us to be easy-going and adventurous.

We’re super excited for Creamfields Taiwan and Hong Kong and our upcoming Japan tour!

It seems like every DJ has a podcast. I listen to several. Have you thought about producing a podcast to keep us entertained between releases?
We’re always thinking about that! However, if we’re gonna do it, we’re gonna do the best podcast ever, so it will require our full attention. At this point in our career, we don’t believe we have that capacity yet. We do promise that it will happen though, and these things always happen way quicker than you anticipate.

What else can you tell me about the new single and the future of BEAUZ?
In 2023, we’ll try to gradually take our listers on a musical evolution. The OG BEAUZ sounds will be present, but delivered in fresh and playful ways. Our goal in the studio is always to outdo ourselves, to make the coolest music we’ve ever made.

Thanks for doing this, guys. When you release an LP, let’s reconnect. In the meantime, I always give the artist the last word. Go.
We always say, “We’ve come too far to only come this far.” We want to build an invaluable legacy by making the best music we can possibly make, and by staying true to ourselves. With COVID finally disappearing, we’re beyond stoked to tour the world and hang out with our friends and fans. Without our supporters, we wouldn’t be where we are today. We’ll always be grateful.
