Bok Nero brings his hypercharged productions to the infectious bass house single “King Kong”, out now on Dim Mak. The ultimate party track, “King Kong” brings colossal and chaotic energy straight to the dance floor.

King Kong

Bok explains, “When I walk into a club, I’m here for a good time. You better be too! IDC if you spent 20 thousand on a section, or $20 on a GA ticket if you ain’t there to have fun, what do you come out for? No shade, just good vibes only.”

Bok Nero is truly paving his own path as his artist project grows, which is no small feat as there are no comparable acts for him to look up to. A student of life who is flourishing in unimaginable ways as someone from the projects in Philadelphia, Bok’s success in music making, live shows, collaborations, and travel is all self-made and developing in real-time. Where Bok comes from, the idea of traveling is unattainable and even scary. Growing up, he remembers only knowing of a four-block radius in his neighborhood, so on his first European tour, his “WORLWIDE NERO” and “FUCK FEAR, TRAVEL MORE” phrases started to brew in him.

While Bok’s sound is a hybrid of hip-hop, dance, trap, and pop – his sound is evolutionary and truly can’t be pigeonholed into one genre of sound. His newest and unreleased music is nothing like what fans have heard from him before. Watch this space for more to come from Bok Nero.

Bok Nero is a standout artist on the Dim Mak roster, watch this space for much more to come in 2023!

This sound is a bit hard for me, but I really like this single. After listening to it a few times, I reached out to learn more about Bok Nero. It looks like he has fun up there, and he likes to travel. I was eager to learn more about him and his music and the inspiration behind “King Kong”. I think you are really going to enjoy this. It is my pleasure to introduce you to Bok Nero.

I’m digging your new single “King Kong” out now on Dim Mak. Tell me more about that single, where the idea came from, and who did the vocals on that release.
“King Kong” is a mentality I have walking into any club. As an African-American male in the dance music world, sometimes I feel out of place. I love these vibes so much. I know the dance floor of GA is where the real ragers live! We shuffle/head bang and do the little flicking wrist motion to the beats. (Laughs.) That’s where all the magic happens.

I did the vocals on the release; I pride myself as being one of the best vocalists I know I can do anything.

What was it like working with Dim Mak? Did you go looking for them or did they come to you?
I discovered Dim Mak through producer Jahlil Beats I worked with. He’s responsible for the early 2010’s east coast sound with records for Meek Mill, Rick Ross, Big Sean & other rappers on the east coast. I’m from Philly, where everybody knows each other. Jah introduced me to Dim Mak. I was the only artist fusing hip-hop with dance music in Philly at the time. The relationship made sense.

You’ve released a lot of singles since 2019. Are you working on a new EP or a long player?
I’m working on my EP God Bless The Trphse. This project is close to my heart.

I’m practicing gratitude, mixing my past influences growing up in the hood with my present experiences being at all these cool types of dance music events. The vibes are me capturing that raw Philadelphia neighborhood house party energy. Asking myself. Visually, “what does the trphse look like?” Sonically “What does the trphse sound like?”

How can I translate my journey to my friends fans and supporters?

God bless the trap house. God bless the hustle. God bless our families, keep them healthy, keep us aligned with personal goals, and remind us to be grateful when we live to see another day.

It looks like you have a lot of fun while on stage. What is it like seeing you perform and where do you find all that energy?
I have yet to see a show similar to my own.

I have influences (Freddie Mercury, Lady Gaga, Kid Cudi) I’ve drawn inspiration from, so I’m very confident in performing. I’ve rehearsed more than you would believe. Even if I mess up I laugh it off, nobody is perfect. That would be boring.

Life teaches me to relax in awkward situations it helped me get over the fear of looking foolish in public.

Who designed the artwork for “King King”? I love it… I keep seeing new things every time I look at it.
I design the base ideas for all my artwork. Tuxedo, toxic rain, King Kong all tell one continuous story up until King Kong which is me finally arriving to the trphse party which symbolizes the end of phase 1 and welcomes the next phase of my art & music.

The consistent themes in my artwork cover have been the purple sky; the character in shadow; their emotion is a mystery. Determine their mood, it’s up to you!

Speaking of seeing you on stage, any plans for a tour this year? I’d love to see you live!
Yes, I will be going on Steve Aoki’s HiROQUEST Genesis tour this spring. My God bless the trphse parties will be popping up in cities all over the United States. Wait until you see what my hse party looks like. My ability to blend culture is unmatched, so the conversation clothing and dancing will be a beautiful energy you want to be apart of.

Thanks for doing this man. This was a short interview, but what else can you tell me? What’s next for Bok Nero?
I believe we will have computer chips in our brains and all humans will evolve, eventually becoming mutants like the X-Men. We will evolve at different times, some sooner than others.

Some people will use their powers to be selfish; others will help people. I’m going to be a superhero by 2026.

Let’s do a big feature when you release your next LP. hoping sooner than later. In the meantime, in all the interviews I go, I always give the artist the last word. Go.
It’s Bok Nero aka Bok Choy aka Big Ghost.

I be late to all the functions. I get feral when I come! That Patrón ain’t hit me yet, when it do I’m turning up!
