Hideaway

Maison Ware has found Helix Records as the congenial label to showcase his signature ominous house sounds. His sophomore release on the label, “Hideaway”, demonstrates his inimitable style, tainted with a sense of dark allure, and further reinforces the notion that his pairing with Helix is nothing short of a perfect combination.

This single is the second offering from Maison’s forthcoming output on Helix, which portends an exciting journey through the diverse sonic landscapes of his craft. “Hideaway” follows his debut single on the label “Hold On” with BRUX.

“Hideaway” is the second single off of my upcoming EP, Hiding In Plain Sight.

“This one is for those who like their music dark and heavy. I designed most of the synths on my moog and recorded them in as audio so that I could maintain a raw, underground sound. Dominique brought it back to the light with her airy vocal delivery. We decided to keep the first take of the vocals to match the rawness of the rest of the record.

“Some of the main elements are heavily inspired by the trance records coming out around the time I got into DJing. So this record feels like it’s always been a part of me.” – Maison Ware

About Maison Ware
Enter the secret society of Maison Ware, whose cryptic, jet-black artistry represents the next progression of electronic music. Cloaked in shadows and sophistication, Maison Ware’s signature style is the soundtrack for indulgence, effortlessly straddling the line between the warehouse and the dance floor.

Fiery and intoxicating, Maison Ware’s sound quickly caught the attention of those in the know within the electronic music community. In 2019, Maison Ware made his label debut with “Shibuya” on mau5trap’s We Are Friends, Vol. 9 compilation, which marked the beginning of a series of releases with the label. Maison Ware’s first solo release with mau5trap, “Mind”, stole the hearts of listeners with its brooding mid tempo flair, and his 2020 single “CSM” via Armada Music revealed sheer beauty behind a dark curtain. Since his debut, Maison Ware’s presence has exponentially spread, with the likes of Triple J, Earmilk, and Your EDM amongst his most vocal followers.

More a dance music producer, Maison Ware is a budding film composer, scoring the film Spree which was executive-produced by Drake and premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. As the first artist signed to deadmau5’s Film & TV label, Maison has contributed music to Aquaman, Pretty Little Liars, The Boys and more. His ability to conjure music for the screen speaks to his aptitude for curating a compelling experience through sound, something listeners will find within each and every release.

Now signed to Helix Records, Maison Ware enters 2023 with a new project and renewed purpose.

After hearing “Hideaway” I was hooked. This song is GREAT… Feels.

I didn’t know much about Maison Ware. I did some digging and was eager to learn more. I reached out for an interview and a few days we were rapping on his new single, his work with Dominique, his time with Helix Records, and his experience working with Drake. This young man has a bright future ahead of him. And it is my pleasure to introduce you to Maison Ware.

A new era begins.

Tell me about your new single “Hideaway” out now on Helix Records.
“Hideaway” is the second single off my upcoming EP – Hiding In Plain Sight. This one is designed for the clubs. It’s for those who like their music dark and heavy and fuses all the sounds I grew up on with my own industrial twist of course…

You worked with Dominique on that release. How did you connect and who wrote the lyrics? The song is great, man!
Thank you! Dominique is a friend of my managers – he showed me a record she had worked on prior to connecting us and I was immediately blown away by her voice. It felt like the perfect fit for “Hideaway”. Dom wrote the lyrics and vocal melody and sent back a demo. We decided to keep the first take to match the rawness of the rest of the record.

That’s a fairly new label. How did you connect with Helix Records?
I related to the Helix and Ultra Records publishing team by a friend of mine who works for Helix. She introduced me to Danny and Rebecca whilst I was travelling in the United States. I went down to their office, and we immediately got along. I guess that’s how all great relationships start…

During my holiday they connected me with a few of their writers and we had a couple of jam sessions where we came up with some magic. When I got back to Australia, the Helix team offered me a deal.

Where did the name come from?
I usually write my records with an experience or theme in mind. For “Hideaway”, it was about escaping reality and being in a place where nothing in the world matters except for the moment.

When Dominique sent back her vocals, “Hideaway” felt most fitting for the song.

Spree was executive produced by Drake and premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. Tell me more about that project and your work as a budding film composer.
This was a really great experience for me. I really enjoy making cinematic music, you’ll even hear it in my club records. When I was offered this opportunity, I was both nervous and excited. I had previously worked on records synched to films, such as Aquaman, but this was the first time I had composed and written multiple records specifically designed to multiple scenes in a movie.

When working as a film score composer, you must break the traditional structure of music and follow the feeling of what is on screen rather than the orthodox arrangement of music. This was a challenge for me, but also opened my mind up to breaking boundaries in my own music too.

My goal is to be a full-time film score composer once I’ve had my fun as a touring artist.

It seems like every DJ has a weekly podcast. Any plans to produce your own show? You know I’d subscribe!
I feel like this is something I’ll do down the track for sure. For me, it needs to be right time and right place. I’ll definitely do this with the right network in the near future.

You keep releasing singles. Are you working on an EP or perhaps a full-length studio album?
My EP Hiding In Plain Sight will be released this summer – it’s been a few years since I dropped a full body of work! I am going to be dropping an album, I’ve already picked some of the records!

Who designed the cover and what is it supposed to be? I love it, by the way!
Thanks! My designer, Adam Dal Pozzo has designed all my recent covers. The idea is that we create shapes and figures out of these models which move and change as a video. We then pick our perfect moment and grab that as the cover. It’s kind of like looking at clouds in the sky – everyone sees something different. I guess you could say there are little subliminal images in there Hiding In Plain Sight.

What headphones are around your neck?
I use the Sennheiser HD 25 headphones when DJing and beyerdynamic DT 770 PROs in the studio – I much prefer working on my monitors in the studio though!

Your sound is unique… Who inspires you? What are you listening to when you’re not working on a new single?
I like listening to all genres and types of music. I produce for quite a few pop, R&B and hip-hop artists too. This keeps me creative and open to using sounds and techniques that aren’t commonly used in dance music. I listen to Ludwig Goransson and Hans Zimmer most mornings – that’s probably where the cinematic influence comes from. By the end of the night I’m onto industrial techno, melodic techno, or sometimes house music, country music, Arabic music, R&B –  It really depends on my mood.

We’ve talked about a lot today. What else can you tell me about Maison Ware?
Maison Ware is the project where I can be exactly who I want to be, make exactly what I want to make, and push boundaries without thinking too hard about where it lives in the world and who is going to play the records.

What’s next for Maison Ware?
More shows, more music, more travelling, more collaborations and more of whatever else this journey puts in front of me.

Thanks for doing this, man. Let’s reconnect soon! In all the interviews I do I always give the artist the last word. Go.
Thanks for having me! Much love. I can’t wait to tell you more about this journey and share more music and keep spreading good vibes in the future.
