Have It All

Dutch DJ and producer Paul Mayson unveils his latest release, “Have It All”. This ultimate feel- good dance record blends house music with soulful and nostalgic sounds that make you long for summer. The bundle release is part of Mayson’s mission to create a series of timeless and uplifting dance records inspired by the iconic sound and culture of the early house music era.

“As a producer, I’ve always felt inspired by ’80 house music. Like the way house music started, I love blending old-school house sounds with organic samples and influences from disco, soul and hip-hop. The infusion of disco samples, positivity, and freedom is an alluring part of the culture. To be able to create dance music that goes beyond trends, lifting your spirits and making you feel free, is what drives me.”

Accompanying the release is a music video that leads up to the release of Mayson’s debut album with Sony Music this summer. “Have It All” is a fusion of house music with the iconic brass section from Chicago’s “Street Player” and is a celebration of the joy and journey of love and friendship. Mayson’s second track, “I Want You”, pushes boundaries within dance music with a more indie- electronic approach.

Mayson is a versatile producer known for his work with global pop and hip-hop artists such as Ella Eyre, Sam Feldt, Nathan Sykes, Don Diablo, Yelawolf, and Far East Movement. In addition, he has gained support from DJs, including Axwell & Ingrosso, David Guetta, Oliver Heldens, Sam Feldt, Don Diablo, and Riton.

Mayson’s bundle release promises to be a must-listen for fans of uplifting dance music that goes beyond trends and genres. So don’t miss out on the release of “Have It All” and stay tuned for the release of Mayson’s debut album with Sony Music this summer.

After hearing this song, and seeing the DJs supporting his work, I reached out for an interview. Within a few days we were chatting about all the singles he’s released over the years, his work with Sony Music, the success of his single “Want Me” and his plans on starting a podcast. He also details Run EP, an experiment he did blending electronic dance music with rock and indie. This was a great conversation and it was fun getting to know him better. It is my pleasure to introduce you to Paul Mayson.

Digging your new single. Tell me more about “Have It All” and what inspired this release.
Cheers! I’ve had the idea for “Have It All” for a few years now, I’ve always loved house music and the infusion of disco and soul samples. To make a record that feels a bit nostalgic and overall just very positive and free. That’s what this one was about. It started with the house groove and the Chicago – “Street Player” horn sample that we re-recorded. I then wrote the vocals together with a British writer (Ben) and it all came together quite nicely.

“Have It All” is out now on Sony Music. What was it like working with them compared to other record labels?
I think the Sony team is great and it’s really nice to work with people for the longer term, it just enables you to work more closely on a vision and a long term plan whereas before I did more one-off singles with different labels.

It seems like every DJ has a podcast. Any plans to start producing a weekly show?
I do guest mixes quite regularly, a weekly show isn’t my biggest priority right now because I feel I want to put out more music first and really focus on that.

You’ve seen support from David Guetta, Axwell & Ingrosso, and Don Diablo. What does it mean getting support from such big names?
I don’t really make music with the goal of being played by any specific DJ or radio station whatsoever, I just make what I’m passionate about. So when the big guys support what you’re doing, that’s just very cool and rewarding. I remember Axwell & Ingrosso playing one of my first releases on the Tomorrowland mainstage and I was pretty hyped about it. Don Diablo took me on tour with him as a support act which was also a great experience.

You’ve released a lot of singles over the years. And you released your Run EP in 2016. How has your sound changed over the years and where do you find inspiration for a new track?
It has evolved quite a bit. The Run EP was very experimental, it was a mix of electronic music with rock and indie. No one was really doing something like that sonically and I released it on a dance/club label as well so everyone was like: wait a minute what the hell is this guy doing? I enjoyed it a lot though, and people did appreciate it, there was no pressure or expectation for me because I was just releasing a few tracks on and off and I was producing for other artists too. I was still studying and starting to build my career in music. Over the recent years my love for house music really resurfaced and that’s just what I’m super passionate about right now.

Your single “Want Me” has almost 8 million Spotify streams. Tell me more about that single and what that sort of support means to you as a producer.
Streams are great and definitely important as well. I don’t think it necessarily is why I make music and what adds all the meaning to what I do though. It’s great if a song connects with people one way or another!

What else can you tell me about Paul Mayson and your summertime plans?
I’m just gonna sit on an island and sip cocktails. Nah just kidding, I’ve got some pretty big news coming up! Very excited for this summer and everything I’ve been working on.

Thanks for doing this, man. I enjoyed getting to know you better. In all the interviews I do, I always give the artist the last word. Go.
Thanks for having me! Hope everyone’s liking the new EP, it’s been a fun process and I can’t wait to share more.
