LET ME TEACH YOU BAD MNNRS
When the team at Get In! PR shared this EP I was hooked. The EP is only 2 songs, but both tracks have summertime vibes pulling me to the dance floor. Until this EP I wasn’t familiar with his work, but MNNR has released several bangers including “Dream Team”, “Thanks Officer”, a single that has over 1 million Spotify streams, and “The Party”.
To learn more about this up and comer I reached out for an interview. A few days later he was on the horn and we were chatting about his new EP, his work with Do Not Duplicate Recordings, and his time in The Eternal City. This was an unforgettable interview and it is my pleasure to introduce you to MNNR.
What does MNNR stand for? How did you come up with your name?
MNNR stands for “manner”, which is a name that I chose after making my first track for this project. It was called “Bad MNNRs”. I decided to remove vowels from it so that it would be easier to search on socials, Google, etc. (Laughs.)
Your new EP is fire. Tell me more about “Clear My Mind” and the 2 singles you picked for this release. Why only 2 tracks?
I think that unless an artist is working on an album, if they’re still not big enough, putting out too many tracks together would not help the average listener focus on the singular tracks.
Who designed the EP artwork? I love it!
Do Not Duplicate Recordings! They did a really good job making this artwork! I love it!
As a performer, what does an EP like this mean to you? Both as a DJ and as an individual?
Releasing EPs for me is like showing little chapters of an artist’s life. Sometimes an EP may be heavy hitting and crafted for the dancefloor, and sometimes an EP may be softer and focused more on the melody, or other elements. The artist can really express themselves by making different EPs over time.
You are based in Rome, Italy. SO much history in Rome. What is it like living in The Eternal City and what are some good “locals only” places to see on our next visit?
Man, Italy is such a nice country to visit! Good vibes, good food, beautiful places! But, it’s an awful country to live in, especially if you’re an artist. There aren’t many good opportunities for artists to grow or shine. Unfortunately, for artists who are making my genre, exporting their productions outside of the country is the only way to be heard.
Did you enjoy working with Do Not Duplicate Recordings on this release?
I’ve respected BIJOU’s work for a long time! I really like how he and his team work for the label. When Josh, DND RECS label manager, asked me to send him stuff for the label, I really didn’t hesitate.
Who wrote the lyrics for “Really About It” and who sang on this track?
I downloaded the vocals from Looperman, which is a really cool website where people or artists can upload their sounds or acapella for free. Sometimes you can find real gems in it.
What can fans expect from seeing you live? Any plans to visit the US anytime this summer?
I’m in LOVE with electronic music, I really enjoy playing all genres, but of course a DJ set from MNNR would have lots of unsigned IDs and various styles in one set. I don’t like monotonous live sets. I’d rather analyze the dancefloor and choose the music I like depending on how the crowd reacts. My sets would range from tech house, to minimal, to bass house to jump up drum and bass.
I really want to come to the US soon, but unfortunately it’s not so easy for people who live overseas to perform there because it’s not very easy to get an artist’s Visa to perform live.
Thanks for doing this, man. In all the interviews I do, I always give the artist the last word. Go.
If you ever decide to come to Rome, I’d be pleased to suggest some cool pizza places here! (Laughs.) Don’t expect too much from the music scene here. Can’t say the same about the food though!
Thanks for having me, it’s been a pleasure!
