Scandinavian production duo anamē present “Anywhere (Road Trippin’)”, the first single from their upcoming debut album on Anjunabeats.

Anywhere (Road Trippin')

Marcus Schössow and Thomas Sagstad have been planning, plotting, and dreaming anamē for two decades. First coming together at a house party in Helsingborg, Sweden, the Swede and the Norwegian bonded over a love of artists (Sasha or early Tiësto), labels (Strictly Rhythm, Defected), ethics (“We both wanted to work hard for our dreams”) and ideas.

Described by the band as their take on ‘the electronic love song of the summer’, “Anywhere (Road Trippin’)” begins the journey towards their yet-to-be-named debut album, announced in a skit filmed in Anjuna HQ. Over the coming weeks and months, the band will be pulling back the curtain on how an album comes together, through their social media channels and on their “It’s a Beautiful World” podcast series.

The track that closed out both of their sets supporting Above & Beyond at Printworks London in April, “Anywhere (Road Trippin’)” drills into the importance of true, bone-deep connectivity: “You can take me anywhere, just as long as you’re with me.” “This record glues together what we are about. The first time Thomas sent me the ‘Anywhere’ vocal, I was like, wow. It just hits in the heart. And it very heavily emphasizes songwriting, which is key to us. We don’t just want to make club records. We want to make music that tells a story.” – Marcus Schössow

“Anywhere (Road Trippin’)” is out now on Anjunabeats. The duo joins Above & Beyond at their Group Therapy Weekender festivities at The Gorge on July 21-23, and feature at all three Anjunabeats Outdoors shows in New York City, Denver, and Montréal this August. Tickets are on sale now.

After hearing “Anywhere (Road Trippin’)” I was hooked. They are on an impressive tour, too. Their work with Anjunabeats and being a part of Group Therapy Weekender was enough for me. I did some digging on these guys and wanted to learn more about their sound. They are doing some work with rephlektor inkorporated, so I reached out to schedule an interview. It took a few weeks, but I was able to finally sit down with these guys. “Anywhere (Road Trippin’)” is a great song, and I can’t wait to see them live this summer. In the meantime, it is my pleasure to introduce you to anamē.

Tell me about your new single “Anywhere (Road Trippin’)” out now on Anjunabeats.
We could feel “Anywhere” was a very special song from the very beginning of it. You know it’s a good song when you are a little bit scared of it and don’t wanna mess it up! (Laughs.) For us, this song hits us right in the heart and it’s one of those timeless pieces where we crafted every second of it like it’s the last song we will ever make. We’re incredibly grateful for all the massive response we’ve had on it and seeing people sing their hearts out on it makes it even more special.

There are a lot of record labels out there. Why Anjunabeats? And did you have a good experience working with them on this release?
We worked with Anjuna for years now, the love and support they always gave us is priceless – it’s a family thing – there is no anamē without Anjunabeats.

I LOVE the album cover. Who designed that for you and was that photograph taken on a road trip? Seems only fitting!
The album cover picture was taken by none other than Neil Krug. Neil happens to Thomas’ favourite artist – so we are over the moon that he was able to contribute to our album.

This is your first single from their upcoming debut album. When will we hear your next single and how many singles will you release before dropping the album?
We are doing four singles before the album lands. Next one just came out! It’s called “Someone We Used To Love” with a Danish singer-songwriter Lydmor.

What is the “It’s a Beautiful World” podcast series? I am obsessed with podcasts!
Thank you. We have both been into the format that is podcast. And as we wanted to give people a deeper insight into all that goes on behind the scenes when it comes to getting an album produced and released, a podcast seems very fitting.

Printworks London is closing. Now I’m sad! But you got the chance to play there a few months ago. How was that show, and what does that venue mean to you?
It was a bucket list experience. Loved every minute. Very few venues live up to the hype, like Printworks did. It really was that good.

You guys are on the road this summer. You’ll be playing Group Therapy Weekender on my birthday! Any big plans for this tour? And what can fans expect from seeing you guys live?
We booked 25+ shows pre-album release so it’s not an album tour. However, it’s an opportunity for us to connect with our fans and road test all the new music/prepare the music for the album tour next year. So it’s very exciting!

Where did the name anamē come from and why didn’t you use a capital “A”?
anamē means to adapt in old Norwegian, which seems fitting. Not using capital “A” was a design choice.

You decided to release the remix stems of our song “Anywhere” to the public so you can make your version of it the way you want it (remix or mashup) and share it with your friends. Why did you do that and have you heard any killer remixes of that hit single?
This thing that is dance music belongs to the fans. So it’s just our way to get people involved and excited. There have been over 600+ remixes from all over the world, all of them unique and amazing in their own way. It makes us so happy to hear all the different takes on our idea.

Expect some big crowds at Tomorrowland. Do you get nervous playing in front of big crowds?
Sure, we would be more worried if we weren’t.

Have fun on the road this summer… I’d love to see you guys live. Hope to see LA on the list come phase 2.
We just had a show in Huntington Beach but we hope to be back in LA soon!

Thanks for doing this, guys. Let’s do it again when the album drops. In all the interviews I do, I always give the artist the last word. Go.
(Laughs.) Thank you! Special thanks to you for having us and we wish everyone peace, love and happiness, see you on the dance floors. 🙏🏻
