A perfect match between two true geniuses in the game: Restricted and Topic release their first collaboration on July 21. With “Sleepless”, the artists bring their audience a track that promises to become a true summer anthem.
No sleep until the sun rises again! At least that’s the mindset of Restricted and Topic, who define the state-of-the-art of modern dance music with their first collaborative feature track. On “Sleepless (feat. GoldFord)”, the two A-Listers have come together to merge the boundaries between day and night in one track.
Beyond the mesmerizing rhythm of the track, the lyrics encapsulate the experience of being consumed by thoughts of someone special in the midst of the night. With vocals from Californian singer/songwriter GoldFord, known for his features with Sam Feldt and Lost Frequencies, “Sleepless” truly gets a melancholic late-night vibe.

“Big Jet Plane” is such a great song… Who hasn’t heard that single?! When I heard Restricted teamed up with Topic, I was pumped to hear what they came up with. I didn’t know much about Topic, but his single “Breaking Me” has over 1 billion steams on Spotify. Billion. Not million… BILLION.
“Sleepless” features GoldFord, known for his work with Sam Feldt and Lost Frequencies. If you liked “Big Jet Plane” you will LOVE “Sleepless”. When this song dropped I was hooked. I was so impressed, I reached out to learn more. We had a great conversation and it is my pleasure to introduce you to Restricted.
Where did the name come from?
Well my name’s Rhys, so I was just trying to find something that started with “re” like because it sounds like “Rhys” and Restricted was the first one that I liked.
You are originally from Australia. Where are you living now and do you get back to The Land Down Under often?
Still living in Australia at the moment and it will always home, but just travelling so frequently now that I’m not spending too much time at home. I’m building a new studio at home atm and I can’t wait to spend a fair bit of time in there.
You are on tour in Europe right now. Are you having fun? And what can fans expect from a live performance?
Having the best time here, the crowd responses have been insane and I’m playing in so many new places I’ve never played before. Absolutely loving it.
You’ve played for some big crowds… Do you ever get nervous up there?
Not too often, unless it’s a really big stage in a new country I’m usually pretty good.
It seems like every DJ has a podcast. Any plans on producing your own show?
I have restricted radio that’s an hour mix that is full of all my new unreleased stuff. I release those every quarter to showcase the music I’ve been making and playing in sets.
You’ve shared the stage with Will Sparks, Ben Nicky… Laidback Luke. Some big names, man. Do you get to spend much time with them before or after a show, or do you fly in, play, and move to your next gig?
It’s always sick to see these guys through playing shows together. I always try to hang out and catch up with everyone at shows, everyone is on different schedules, so it makes it hard to see each other often.
What headphones are around your neck?
I use Sennheiser HD 25s. Theyre great because they’re super durable, lightweight and every part of them is replaceable.
I know you just released “Sleepless” but I am hooked on “Big Jet Plane”. That single has over 60 million Spotify streams. That’s incredible. Did you ever think you’ve had that much success/exposure when you released that single?
The song came from a viral video with Lil Baby and Post Malone. It was also already a super popular in Australia when I was growing up. Once I did the remix it did really well on TikTok and then we ended up releasing it. You never really know which tracks are going to blow up, but im super grateful for the success of the song.
Where is the best place to learn more about you and your music?
Spotify, SoundCloud, TikTok, Instagram, etc. Always posting new music constantly and I try to balance personal life and music on my socials, teasing songs/day to day life.
I know you just released a new single, but any plans for an EP or a full-length album anytime soon?
Nothing planned atm for and EP or album. Just singles and a lot of remixes atm. But making an album is something that I’ve always wanted to do.
