A WORD FROM 15GRAMS —

I’m Brendan Mosca, but you might know me better as 15grams. If you didn’t know, 15 grams is the exact weight of a CD. From when I started I always had a CD in my back pocket (always having that extra 15 grams on me). I’m a DJ, producer and recording artist from Sydney, Australia. I’m known for my original take on vocal tech house and Brazilian bass, and I’m always pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with these genres both live and in the studio.

I started out as a bedroom DJ, but I quickly realized that I wanted to share my music with the world. I started playing shows in Sydney, and soon I was supporting some of the biggest names in dance music such as Avicii, Swedish House Mafia, Martin Garrix, Tiësto, and Snoop Dogg to name a few. I’ve played at some of the most iconic clubs in the world, including Paradise Beach Club Mykonos, Pacha Ibiza, and Marquee Sydney.

Playing with Avicii was definitely some of the most cherished moments of my career. Not often do you get to meet your idols, let alone share the stage with them getting to witness greatness first hand. I will hold on to moments like this forever.

Paradise Beach Club Mykonos really lit the fire under me from a young age early in my career where I got my first big residency. It was voted 12th best club in the world for a couple years running in the DJ Mag Top 100 which allowed me to play with the world’s biggest DJs every day in front of tens of thousands of fans throughout the European Summer.

I’ve just recently signed a triple record deal with Warner Music Central Europe. My first track on the label ‘Love Myself’, is out now. It’s been getting a lot of support from DJs all around the globe with two big remixes coming out this month from Tazi and Ryan Riback.

I have been so inspired in the studio lately with ideas pouring out of me which has been incredible. I am so lucky to be working with so many talented vocalists and writers alike. I have so much exciting new music on the way and so many incredible collaborations with some of my favorite artists I have always looked up to.

I’m excited to be breaking new ground with my music. I want to show the world that there’s more to vocal tech house and Brazilian bass than just catchy melodies and heavy beats. I want to create music that tells stories and makes people feel something.

I think of myself as a storyteller. I want my music to take people on a journey, to make them feel something. I want them to dance, to cry, to laugh, to think. I want them to feel alive. I bring an energy like no other with originality and character when I play live. Stay tuned for dates on my worldwide tour next year.

I have been lucky enough to mentor a large number of DJs over the years through the Your Shot DJ competition. A lot of them now have amazing DJ careers to this day and are killing it all over the world. This for me is what it’s all about, giving back to the community and raising more talent in the industry.

I’m not just a DJ, I’m also an artist, and I’m excited to share my art with the world. I’m just getting started, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds. I’m determined to make a name for myself in the dance music industry, and I’m confident that I can achieve my goals.

When I first heard this song, I was hooked. I didn’t know anything about Brendan, but this banger was a great introduction. I didn’t know much about Ryan, either. But they collaborated on a single that you can’t turn up loud enough!!! I did some digging and found a few more singles worth listening to. His single “There’s No Me (Without You) (feat. Luther Jaymes) is fantastic and has over 1.7 million streams on Spotify.

15grams is originally from Sydney, Australia, and has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in dance music. He’s played some iconic rooms including Pacha Ibiza. This kid has a bright future ahead of him. After this remix dropped, I reached out to learn more and this interview was a blast for me. I am excited to share his story with you. Without further ado, it is my absolute pleasure to introduce you to 15grams. (Wait until you hear what inspired his name!)

Well… 15grams of what? Where did the name come from?!
15 grams is the exact weight of a CD! I always had a CD in my pocket to play my mixes at friends’ places or anywhere I was going. I used to be a young pizza maker where you weigh dough balls, and I had a CD in my back pocket to play at the restaurant. I pulled it out, and it landed on the scales, and BOOM, the name 15grams was born.

You are originally from Sydney, Australia. What is the dance music scene like Down Under? And what are some iconic nightclubs you’d recommend?
The music scene in Australia is good and differs from state to state. It has had a tough time over the last few years since COVID, but Sydney, where I am from, is definitely on its way back up! I used to be the resident at Marquee Sydney, which has now sadly closed, but my go-to nightclubs in Sydney would be the Change We Need boat party on Glass Island or Sandbox, which are two of my favorite parties to play at!

You appeared on Season 9 of “Are You the One?” on Paramount. How did you get involved with that TV show and what was that experience like? What fun!
I got contacted on Instagram by a casting person from MTV to be on a reality show, which had never even been a thought of mine. They really liked my vibe, and I thought it would be a fun experience, and it definitely was one of the most interesting and fun things I have done so far. Not having your phone for close to 2 months and living in a Truman Show-type world was an amazing experience, and I met so many great people along the way!

You started out as a bedroom DJ. What in the world is a bedroom DJ?
This pretty much means I got some DJ gear (2 x Pioneer CDJ 800s + DJM 400), but I didn’t know how to DJ properly yet, so I locked myself in my bedroom for 6 months and taught myself until I was perfect, and then I started playing at private house parties, and it went from there!

You have supported some big names including Axwell, Martin Garrix, Swedish House Mafia, and Hardwell. What is like performing in front of so many people knowing icons like that are backstage watching and listening to your sound?
I would say it’s the best feeling in the world, nothing comes close to a large crowd, to icons listening and watching you do your thing.

You’ve released music on several big labels including Timmy Trumpet’s production imprint SINPHONY. Are you out there looking for record deals or are they coming to you? And does the experience change from one label to the next?
Yes, I am super grateful to the labels I’ve been able to work with so far that have believed in me. It’s a bit of both, sometimes we send out a tune to multiple and sometimes get hit directly but I am currently on a triple record deal with Warner Music Central Europe!

Your new single “Love Myself” is FIRE! LOVE that track, man. Tell me more about that release. And what is your process when working on and releasing a new single?
“Love Myself” has been a long time coming, working with the amazing vocalist Jay Mason. The guitar riff came first, then we built it around that. The remixes also just added so much to this release; I couldn’t be happier with it. When I get a record finished, I then go to the drawing board to see where and how it is to be released, but most of the time, after I finish one, I’m onto the next!

How did you meet Ryan Riback and what was it like working with him on the remix?
I had never met Ryan prior to him doing the remix. He hit me up directly on Instagram as he loved the song and it went from there coming together in a couple of weeks!

It seems like every DJ has a podcast. Have you thought about producing your own show? You know I’d subscribe!
I think about this often. I am a massive podcast watcher/listener myself and would definitely enjoy doing one, and I think I would have a lot of fun with it. I pretty much solely listen to comedians’ podcasts, with KILL TONY being my favorite. What can be hard is that I’ve been traveling a lot and haven’t been settled until now in Vegas. So, if I find a cool studio and someone I can bounce ideas off of, I will definitely start one. And if you want to subscribe, go hit 15grams on YouTube because I’ll definitely have some vlogs and podcasts coming. But right now, I have plenty of film clips I have done, which are all dope!

You are crushing it on Instagram. Living your BEST life. Not really a question… Just keep it up!
Thank you, plenty more Vegas content coming!

There are a lot of big names on the DJ Mag Top 100. Any surprises this year? And is it a goal as a DJ/producer to get on a list like that?
No surprises but super happy my boy Timmy Trumpet who is in my same management got to 6 which is great to see. Yeah, for sure! I would love to be voted in. We’ll see how it goes.

What headphones are you using?
I have used Sennheiser HD II for most of my career and will continue to, can’t beat em!

You recently signed a triple record deal with Warner Music (Germany). Tell me more about that record deal and how Warmer Music is going to help grow your sound brand worldwide.
They are a huge label as you know and it has been great working with a major who believes in my project to push it to the masses!

What are you listening to when you’re not working on your next single? Who inspires 15grams?
My range of music is crazy, and inspiration comes from so many different places but some of my favorite producers definitely have to be Brazilian.

You also shared the stage with Avicii. What was that like and how has his music inspired your sound?
Playing with Avicii was definitely one of the most cherished moments of my career. Not often do you get to meet your idols, let alone share the stage with them, getting to witness greatness first-hand. I will hold on to moments like this forever.

We have talked about a lot today. What else? What are we missing?
Got most of it I think!

What’s next for 15grams? Any big plans for the New Year? Hoping for a tour that brings you to Southern California. Palm Desert is nice this time of year!
I just moved to Las Vegas so that is gonna happen for sure!

Thanks for doing this, man. In all of the interviews I do I always give the artist the last word. Go.
At the end of the day… It’s night!
