Defected Records is proud to revisit the legendary Todd Edwards catalog with the deluxe version of his House Masters compilation. This complete version includes brand new, original music from Todd with Alex Mills “Wishing I Were Home,” alongside unheard remixes from Majestic, Harry Romero, Soul Clap and Jay Robinson and remixes from leading house and garage artists Skepta & Jammer, salute, Seb Zito, Royal-T, Shermanology, Low Steppa, Bklava, MPH, LP Giobbi, A-Trak, Biscits, DJ Q, Lucas Alexander and Reiss Ruben.
Released in 2021, Todd’s original 42-track compilation demonstrated his approach to experimentation in its full glory; his entirely new sound, born from chopped up samples and vocal clips, helped birth the UK Garage genre while giving the American-born producer major underground credibility. The release of his House Masters compilation, alongside Defected’s acquisition of Edwards’ back catalog, brought the legendary sound of the New Jersey native to newer audiences as Todd featured in major publications The Guardian, Billboard, Mixmag, Complex and the cover of DJ Mag.
Ever since his pioneering releases of the 90s, Todd Edwards has continued to inspire artists around the world, notably featuring remixers in this collection. Joining the incredible list of artists is Alex Mills, whose glossy vocals feature on the new Todd release spearheading the collection, “Wishing I Were Home”. This unreleased original shows Todd’s signature skippy style in full flow, also receiving a remix from Platinum selling producer Majestic.
“My love and adoration for Todd Edwards is no secret. Aside from believing he’s a celestial being not of this world I also believed that one day I might be lucky enough to work with him. I achieved that last year when he remixed ‘Million Dollar Bill’ and now I get to return the favour by reimagining ‘Wishing I Were Home’. It’s one of Todd’s most iconic tracks, sampling The Carpenters and famously sound tracking the Jesus Loves Garage moment so I knew I had my work cut out. I locked myself in a room and didn’t come out until I had something that I felt was special enough to compliment the original.” – Alex Mills
Beginning in August of 2023 with a remix package of “Shut The Door” with salute, Skepta & Jammer, Lucas Alexander and Reiss Ruben, the remix series quickly evolved into a world class collection of house and garage artists; underground selectors Seb Zito and Royal-T take on Todd classics “Push The Love” and “The Dream” respectively, while remixes from Dutch duo Shermanology, Defected stalwart Low Steppa, Yes Yes Yes label boss LP Giobbi and Grammy-nominated producer A-Trak showed the extent of Todd’s far-reaching and diverse sonic legacy.
Additionally, fellow Defected House Master Harry Romero adds a New Jersey bounce to Todd’s vocoder-heavy “I Might Be,” with celebrated artists of today Bklava, MPH, Biscits, DJ Q, Lucas Alexander, Reiss Ruben, Soul Clap, Jay Robinson all contributing to this monumental collection of house and garage mainstays.
