Kidnap drops 10-track themed second album “Something Lost, Something Gained”

Out Now on [PIAS] Électronique. Get it HERE

Kidnap, London-born producer/DJ/multi-instrumentalist/lyricist unveils his themed second studio album Something Lost, Something Gained, out now on [PIAS] Électronique, featuring collaborations with Leo Stannard, Chelou, Gabrielle Aplin, Dwara, and Aaron Smith.

Previous LP singles have resonated with fans and tastemakers alike, with BBC Radio 1’s Sian Eleri calling “Fortified” featuring Dwara “a beautiful song I feel like I’ll turn back to every year for the rest of my life,” and support from Mixmag, BBC Radio 1, Kiss, SiriusXM, DJ Mag…

Lead Track: “Starling” featuring Dwara provides jingling, chiming percussion, an upbeat but gentle piano riff, and Dwara’s layered, breathy vocal showcased in the breakdown for a serene moment of reflection.

Something Lost, Something Gained LP: in ten gorgeous, cinematic tracks, Kidnap aka Matt Relton chronicles the shift from his wild days playing 100+ shows a year at top venues worldwide and a relentless release schedule, to welcoming new fatherhood, showcasing his finest songwriting yet. Enlisting melodic house, DnB, indie, classical, ambient, electronic and acoustic sounds with yearning vocals creates engaging emotions of nostalgia and celebration for listening and for the dancefloor.

The five LP singles range from the melodic layers, heart-catching guitar and Stannard’s yearning vocals of “Overgrown,” the magical incantatory piano/synth arps and Dwara’s rich voice on “Fortified,” folk singer Gabrielle Aplin’s sweet singing on “Feels Like Home” plus indie guitar and trancey piano, to the emotive synth chords, swift beat, and Chelou’s nostalgic vari-pitch vocal of “Something To Say,” all of them danceable as well as listenable. Final single, “Lost Without You” featuring Gabrielle Aplin has minimalist piano while Aplin’s soft, high voice is balanced by deep synth chords; a jazzy feel contrasts with the dreamy singing and lyrics.

Album exclusive tracks (also see Lead Track above): “Alive” featuring Aaron Smith has anthemic widescreen soundscapes and flickering guitars powered by relentless hammering synths to get ravers dancing and hands aloft. Also, three instrumentals; “Vision of a Floating World,” with squelchy bass, airy alien synths and stuttering drones, the sparse, eerie “Ghost Dance,” and “Looking Back,” a gentle piano/guitar interlude.

“This is about growing up, looking back with nostalgia and gratitude, and celebrating the here and now. I hope listeners will relate to those emotions. I just make the music I love, put it out there and hope for the best.” And the best is what Kidnap fans old and new will get.
