Iranian/Australian emerging talent Naz drops her latest release, the atmospheric otherworldly techno cut “Face Off’,” out now. The track drops on IN / ROTATION’s ROTATE Vol. 14 compilation, alongside tracks from Matt Faulk, Fenik, Dances, Relova a.m.m.
With soaring atmospheric synths and an otherworldly 00’s trance-inspired breakdown, contrasting with a glorious driving bassline, ominous enough for the best main room techno sets, “Face Off” delivers at maximum power.
In no time Naz has made an indelible mark on the global stage, with sets including Brooklyn Mirage, Drumsheds, The Gorge, Piknic Electronik, Creamfields, and playing alongside Tale Of Us, CamelPhat, Above & Beyond, Qrion… Her multimedia fantasy-themed imprint New Eden Records goes from strength to strength, with the next single (and book chapter and video element) coming this month.
“I wanted something with a little bit more grit and drive than my usual sound, something that would work well on a dance floor that had a groove and a drop that could blow your grandma’s dentures out’ Naz says. ‘Something I could play in the car when driving that would make me feel like I’m on a mission in GTA. And lastly, something that my dog would approve and be proud of.”

Naz isn’t just making music; she’s building a world. The Iranian/Australian talent has been turning heads with her electrifying sound, and her latest release, “Face Off,” is no exception. Out now on IN / ROTATION’s ROTATE Vol. 14, the track fuses early 2000s trance nostalgia with a relentless bassline, perfect for both a packed dancefloor and a high-speed GTA mission.
With heavyweights like Tale of Us and Above & Beyond in her corner, plus unforgettable performances at The Gorge and Creamfields, Naz is carving out her space on the global stage. But her vision goes beyond the decks. Through her imprint New Eden Records, she’s creating a multimedia universe where music and storytelling collide.
I caught up with Naz to dive into Face Off, her creative process, and what’s next on her journey. Let’s get into it.
Congratulations on “Face Off!” Can you share the story or inspiration behind this high-energy techno track? What led you to explore this more driving, gritty sound?
I really just wanted a high energy instrumental track that I could play towards the end of my sets… I tend to favor vocal collaborations with my productions and don’t often explore just pure instrumentals so this was a fun one to do.
You’ve described “Face Off” as something that could work well on the dance floor while feeling like a mission in GTA. How did you approach balancing those atmospheric and driving elements in the production process?
The breakdown sort of provides that atmospheric hands in the air moment whereas the bassline really has that driving sense of urgency feel to it… Balancing elements like pads and atmospheric layers with the low end elements like my bassline and stabs was the key
The breakdown in “Face Off” feels nostalgic with its 2000s trance-inspired vibe. What role does nostalgia play in your creative process, and how do you bring a fresh take to it?
I absolutely live for nostalgia… I’m probably a little bit too stuck in the past when it comes to my personal musical taste, so I’d say nostalgia definitely plays a big role in my creative process. I try to create a mix of that nostalgic feel with modern elements and sound design
“Face Off” is part of IN / ROTATION’s ROTATE Vol. 14 compilation. How did this collaboration come about, and what does being featured alongside artists like Matt Faulk and Fenik mean to you?
Insomniac have been big supporters of my project from early on, I’ve done a bunch of radio mixes from them, played at their clubs and events like EDC Las Vegas. So it just felt right to release on their label as well. I’m amongst some great names and have also become a new fan of and discovered some producers who I didn’t know before in this compilation so that’s awesome
You’ve had support from names like Tale of Us and Above & Beyond. How does this kind of recognition impact your confidence and direction as an artist?
It’s really surreal!
With your growing discography, how does “Face Off” represent your evolution as an artist, and how does it compare to your earlier releases?
I’m definitely giving the dancefloor more of a moment in my productions lately, and that’s reflective in the higher BPMs, sound design, and feel of the music I’m making these days compared to the more vocal melodic stuff I was making before. I’ll always make vocal and melodic… But I’m leaning into the darkness more.
As an Iranian/Australian artist, how do your cultural roots and background influence your sound or approach to music production?
I love Persian music… There’s such an amazing and rich history there and I think I can definitely do a better job of using more middle eastern inspired elements in my productions going forward.
Your performances at iconic venues like The Gorge and Creamfields bring unique energy. How do these experiences inspire your music, and did any particular set influence “Face Off?”
Any gig you play you learn more about crowd work and what works on the dance floor and this in turn then helps you with what you make for the dance floor! So it’s always cool to reflect on them and think about what worked and what didn’t and what I can do
Techno is often described as a journey. What kind of journey or experience were you aiming to create for listeners with “Face Off?”
I wanted something a little bit fresh, a hands in the air break moment and then a drop that would hopefully hit hard!
Your label, New Eden Records, incorporates multimedia storytelling. Can you tell us about the synergy between your music, book chapters, and video elements? How do they all connect?
So the music is like a soundtrack of the world that is New Eden… With every track release, I put out a teaser of some chapters of the story and a video element that depicts what is happening in that chapter. The chapters are named after the track titles.
New Eden Records blends music, storytelling, and gaming-inspired fantasy. What inspired this immersive project, and how has it evolved?
I wanted to create a fantasy world where music and fantasy story telling combine, and also offer a visual representation to really bring it all to life for the reader/listener/viewer.
You mentioned wanting your dog to approve of this track! Can you share more about how your personal life and quirks influence your creative output?
Jimmy (my dog) and my parents and manager are usually the first to hear new music so their thoughts and feedback are very important to me as they are the most important people/animals in my life!
What’s next for you and New Eden Records? Can you give us a sneak peek into the upcoming single, book chapter, or video releasing in March?
Next up is a track called “Nafas” which translates to “Breathe” in Farsi. I’ll be releasing a teaser chapter that introduces a new character and story arc! And the video for this one will be a little simpler as we are testing out doing shorter visualisers as opposed to full on music video stories for each release… We want to test out different forms of storytelling visually and see what the audience responds to and what they like.
For fans new to your music, how would you describe the essence of Naz in three words? And where should they start exploring your discography
Fun, Dark, Fantasy … You can check me out on any of the streaming platforms!
Thanks so much for doing this. It was a lot of fun getting to know you and featuring your latest release. We’ve covered so much today, but is there anything we haven’t touched on that you’d like to share before we wrap up?
Thanks so much for having me!
In all of the interviews I do, I always like to give the artist the last word. Go.
The world may seem a little bit like a scary place right now… But music is the one thing that can unite us. Stay safe, give love, be good and do good!
