New York-born and London-based visual artist, producer, and creative director I’MMORTAL is returning with a hypnotic new music video for biskuwi’s Melodic Techno remix of her track “KILLED U IN A DREAM.” The striking visual offers a fresh dimension to the collaboration. I’MMORTAL launched herself into the digital sphere in August 2023 with the release of her debut tech-house single, “Versace Spaceship,” and has since released five more singles. I’MMORTAL’s music has amassed over a quarter of a million streams on Spotify alone and has been praised by tastemaker publications such as DJ Mag Spain, CLASH Magazine, NOTION, KALTBLUT Magazine, EARMILK, METAL Magazine, and Wonderland Magazine.
biskuwi is a rising Stockholm-based artist who has earned support from Richie Hawtin, Solomun, and Yotto, played iconic venues like SonneMondSterne, Harry Klein, and Södra Teatern, and landed in the Beatport Top 10 and editorial playlists including Beats of Tomorrow, Techno Bunker, and Electronic Rising. Her remix of “KILLED U IN A DREAM” transforms I’MMORTAL’s dark pop anthem into a hypnotic slice of Melodic Techno – dizzying, defiant, and dancefloor-ready. Hailing from California, I’MMORTAL spent her childhood and teenage years playing violin in orchestras, unknowingly developing composition skills crucial for her current music production. With a theater background, she discovered her love for singing during high school musicals. Despite a fondness for classical music, she’s an avid listener of EDM, drawn to its gritty basslines and synthetic production. I’MMORTAL’s audio-visual synesthesia makes fusing otherworldly visuals to her imaginative beats only come naturally to her. Her campy visual work often encompasses themes of death and rebirth, the natural world versus artificial constructs, femininity, and her AAPI identity.
The video is yet another one of I’MMORTAL’s futuristic fever dreams. Displaying I’MMORTAL in an ornate cage, dressed in a gorgeous blue two-piece and glinting silver Pleasers, it introduces the world to her brand new Madame Blue persona. As I’MMORTAL dances, glitchy edits and balls of light make her more bewitching and surreal, drawing the viewer in. She emerges in a dazzling flash from the cage in a burlesque-inspired blue butterfly costume, taking centre stage as an expressive, sensuous and empowered performer.

I love discovering new music, especially when it comes with a visual story as compelling as the sound itself. I had never heard of I’MMORTAL before this interview… But after one watch of the music video for “KILLED U IN A DREAM” (biskuwi Remix), I was hooked. From the haunting vocals to the hypnotic beat—and that surreal, cinematic visual—this project pulled me in fast. I’MMORTAL is a New York-born, London-based artist blending orchestral sounds, electronic beats, and theatrical visuals to create an experience all her own. She’s not just releasing music—she’s building a world. In this interview, we talk about her journey from violin to EDM, her alter ego Madame Blue, and how dance has shaped her identity as a performer. Thank you for joining me today. Let’s start with your new release. What inspired the creation of “KILLED U IN A DREAM” and how did the biskuwi remix come to life?
Thank you for having me!
The ideas of rebirth, metamorphosis, and the dark feminine inspired the creation of “KILLED U IN A DREAM.” The Biskuwi remix came to life because I wanted sort of a “Side B” to the original song that felt lighter. Biskuwi is so talented, and was able to create such a masterpiece that felt perfectly light but still esoteric.
The video for the biskuwi remix is stunning. Can you describe the visual concept and how Madame Blue first came to mind?
Thank you so much! The visual concept, very simply, is about a caterpillar undergoing a supernatural metamorphosis into a butterfly.
Madame Blue has been brewing in my mind for a few months before filming the video. I’ve always wanted to embody an insect-like persona. One of my favorite shows of all time is the Thierry Mugler 1997 fashion show where the looks were inspired by insects. It’s a huge inspiration for me, but I made Madame Blue more Burlesque and ravey. Madame Blue really became solidified when I started dancing as a hobby, and when I attended raves during Amsterdam Dance Event. She is a combination of sparkly raves, and dazzling Burlesque dancing.
You mentioned that Madame Blue represents an artistic metamorphosis. What does this persona mean to you and how does she connect with your past and future creative work?
Madame Blue as a persona represents the powerful essence of femininity that can be unlocked through dance and Burlesque.
She’s a true Diva that does not fear taking up space, but is also able to hold space for others to unlock their own feminine power. These past few months, I’ve found myself talking to other Asian women about how we don’t have enough Divas in our community. I’m sure this is relatable to many Asian women. Growing up in a more traditional Asian household shaped me to become modest and to feel unnatural under the spotlight. Even when I was doing lots of theater in high school, I always had a sense of shame for being under any spotlight. For the most part, it’s not in our culture to grow into unapologetic Divas. On top of that, many of us experience self-consciousness around our bodies due to impossible beauty standards. This often times leads to being super disconnected from our own bodies. I was definitely not raised to be a Diva. I’ve only found the confidence to embody being a Diva literally a couple months ago when I started floor work dancing, pole dancing, and doing Burlesque. Dance and Burlesque has really allowed me to get back in touch with my own body. Madame Blue represents this powerful rebirth, and I truly hope she inspires others to undergo the same metamorphosis.
I am currently working on some more clubby pop songs that require me to embody that pop Diva energy. It’s definitely been a challenge for me, but that’s why Madame Blue emerged. Having her in my next few projects will give me the strength and confidence to not shy away from taking up space.
You grew up playing violin in orchestras, were involved in theater, and now make EDM. How have those early experiences shaped your music today?
My orchestra and theater background are definitely present in my music today. I love to use orchestral sounds in my sounds. I process these sounds to sound weird and electronic. I think my songs all have a theatrical feeling to them. They each live in a different world. What I loved about theater was the world-building element. I love approaching music production the same way I approach building characters and worlds in the theater.
There is a strong dance element in this video. Is this the first time you have integrated choreography in your visual storytelling and what was the creative process like behind it?
I’ve done fight choreography in the “UNCANNY VALLEY” video and worked with a movement director in the original “KILLED U IN A DREAM” video, but this is the first time I”ve incorporated straight up dance choreography into video.
I actually wanted to learn simple floor work dancing for this video specifically, but it spiraled into me discovering a new artistic passion. I just got really really into dancing during the preparation phase of this video, and it evolved the video to be a more comprehensive dance video. Me spiraling into this new passion was a huge part of the creative process of the video. I worked with a wonderful choreographer named Stefanie Ensink, and she was able to translate my ideas into amazing choreography while taking into account the VFX and costume changes.
Let’s talk about biskuwi. What drew you to her sound and why was she the right fit to remix this particular track?
What drew me to her sound was her ability to make superb danceable tracks while creating a haunting and feminine vibe. She was perfect for this remix because I wanted a dancey melodic techno track, but I wanted to preserve the haunting and deep feeling of the original.
People have been comparing your sound to artists like Adriatique, Camelphat, and ARTBAT. Do you feel a connection to their work and does that influence your production?
That’s such a compliment! Definitely feel a connection to their work, especially the more dancey and electronic elements in my tracks.
You’ve received support from DJ Mag Spain, CLASH, NOTION, and Wonderland. How does it feel to see that kind of recognition so early in your career?
It’s such an honor to receive this kind of support early on in my career. I feel like it’s difficult for me to find my genre, and I didn’t think I had a clear path in the music industry. However, being recognized by such prominent publications really gives me more confidence. I feel less fear around carving my own path, and I embrace what makes me unique.
Your debut single “Versace Spaceship” went viral. What was that moment like when you realized the track had gained serious momentum?
I think I was just really surprised that it gained any traction. It’s just such a silly song that I made while I was still figuring out how to even produce.
You’ve said you experience audio-visual synesthesia. How does that influence your songwriting, video direction, and overall aesthetic?
It influences my work because it makes me view the visuals and tracks as a single unit. So far, I’ve always created the tracks in tandem to the videos. I’ll get an idea for a track to impacts the color or vibe of the video. Sometimes I get a visual inspiration for the video that then impacts the production or structure of the song.
Themes like death and rebirth, nature versus artificiality, and your AAPI identity often appear in your work. How do you decide which of these themes to explore in each project?
I usually create the project based on what theme is most present in my life. It’s not always so on the nose, and often manifests into symbols and metaphors.
You’re originally from New York but now based in London. How has that move influenced your music and the way you express yourself as an artist?
I’ve actually been thinking about this a lot because I’ve changed so much since I moved to London. I think in my case it was less about the places I was living in, but more about the power of moving itself. Moving to London felt like an opportunity to start brand new. I was able to finally feel free enough to express parts of myself as an artist that the New York version of myself would have been too afraid to express. One good example of how London specifically has influenced my artistry is Burlesque. London has one of the biggest Burlesque scenes, and moving gave me the confidence to just take a leap and try a few classes. I’ve been learning to fan dance, and to chair dance. I will be incorporating both in my videos and live performances.
Since launching in 2023, you’ve released six singles. Can fans expect a debut EP or a full-length album anytime soon?
Unfortunately, probably not anytime soon. One of the biggest things I’ve had to come to terms with is the fact that I have a very lengthy creative process. It often takes me months (even years) to create tracks and videos. I think this is because I’m doing a lot of the work myself, but also because I’m always trying to figure out the world the project lives in. Perhaps when my creative process becomes more efficient in the future I’ll have the bandwidth to create an EP. I would absolutely love to create and EP or an album though. It would be so fun to create a uniform visual world for a collection of songs!
What does your typical creative process look like? Do you start with a melody, a lyric, a visual, or something else entirely?
I usually start with the hook of the song or a visual image, and the project expands from there.
Are there any dream collaborations you hope to make happen, whether that’s producers, vocalists, choreographers, or visual artists?
Working with Sevdaliza would be a dream come true. She’s such a unique and beautiful artist, and she’s inspired me endlessly. Her voice, her movement, and her visuals never fail to strike a chord in me. I would love to work with the producer Danja. He produced some of my favorite Britney Spears songs, and he’s just able to create that dark and twisted but sparkly theatrical feeling I love!
Do you have any upcoming live shows or tour dates planned? Will fans be able to see Madame Blue come to life on stage?
I am still gestating as a live performer. I think I’ve spent the past year training and experimenting in private. Hopefully I will be able to perform at this year or beginning of next year! I have some very interesting audio-visual ideas I’ve been experimenting with!
How will you prepare for your live performances, both mentally and creatively? Do you bring elements from your videos into your stage shows?
I will definitely bring the theatrics! I was a theater kid before I became a musician or a video maker. It’s interesting how I thought I left the theater forever, but somehow I’ve found my way back in my own style.
Outside of music and video production, are there other art forms you are exploring right now?
Dance! Since creating the video, I’ve been dancing almost everyday. I started pole dancing, chair dancing, and fan dancing. I’ve also been itching to try other forms of aerial arts, as one of my favorite parts of pole dancing is the aerial moves I can do while the pole is spinning. When I have more time and resources I shall start aerial silks and aerial chains!
What are your personal or professional goals for the rest of this year and beyond?
I’d love to solidify my live act, and to try it out on a small scale this year. I’ve been working on a few experimental ways to perform live. I would be so ecstatic to try it out in a low stakes setting. Like my songs and videos, I’ve been taking a very long time to figure out what kind of live performer I am.
For someone who has just discovered you, which song or video should they start with and why?
Start with the video for the “KILLED U IN A DREAM” (biskuwi remix). Maybe I’m saying this because it’s the most recent video, but it just feels the most me. I’d like to carry certain aspects of this video into my upcoming ones!
