Just A Feeling EP

Cat. No: RPMX018

Techno-trance exponent JackRock returns to Charlotte de Witte’s RPM by KNTXT with his solo debut on the label, five-track EP Just A Feeling, out now.

The new EP follows club favourite “Soulcatcher” and “In The Dark,” the #4 best-selling trance release of 2024 and #11 in Beatport’s entire BeatStats archive, both on RPM as collaborations with Balthazar, while igniting stages across 30+ countries and amassing millions of streams.

JackRock uses the driving energy of techno and the uplifting ethereal melody of trance to craft emotional storytelling experiences. On his new EP, he says, “As always, my tracks come from triggered strong emotions you can feel radiating from them. Five different tracks, five different stories to experience through soul, body and heart. Power, joy, sorrow, darkness and light united in my techno-rave drive.”

Says Charlotte de Witte, “I’m very happy to welcome JackRock back on the label, now presenting his first solo EP. Just A Feeling EP reflects his versatility as a producer, delivering tracks with a consistent energy that really pulls you in. I’m very excited for everyone to hear it.”

Title track “Just A Feeling”: superspeed beats and bassy arps carry a robotic spoken vocal, acid spurts, spacey swoops, and mysterious whispers. A breakdown female vocal ushers in an acid-twinged, frantic, tension-building melody. “Generation X” is a sparser soundscape, a complex narrative where moods alternate and mix; melodic acid synths duel with choral vocals for an orchestral effect. “Limerance” sizzles with hi-hats and a deep, rumbling theme before a sweet vibrato female vocal emerges through spacey acid FX. “Demons Within” has an ominous yet upbeat vibe, with high staccato stabs and fizzing acid, while a male vocal intones, “The only fight I’m willing to win is the one against the demons within.” “Can We Make It Right” has a slower, more deliberate beat, as robotic stabs, chopped fuzzy notes, and string synth arps vie with a ’90s-feel melodic theme, while layers of melody grow fuller and fatter… organic vs. machine.

Designing emotions

There is something powerful about music that makes you feel connected without ever saying a word, and JackRock captures that feeling perfectly on his new EP, Just A Feeling. Released on Charlotte de Witte’s RPM by KNTXT, the five-track project blends the driving force of techno with the emotional lift of trance in a way that feels deeply personal and incredibly immersive. Each track carries its own story, emotion, and atmosphere, yet the EP flows naturally from one moment to the next like a carefully designed journey through darkness, light, tension, and release.

What stands out most is the emotion woven into every second of the record. Whether it is the hypnotic energy of the title track, the nostalgic feeling behind “Generation X,” or the introspective message inside “Demons Within,” JackRock creates music that feels honest and human. It is not just built for the dancefloor. It is built to make you feel something.

I had the chance to sit down with JackRock to talk about the EP, emotional storytelling through sound, and what this release means as his first solo project on RPM by KNTXT. It is my pleasure to introduce you to JackRock.

You’re returning to RPM by KNTXT with your first solo EP on the label. What does this moment mean to you personally and professionally?
This is actually a major moment for me. The duo project existed for over two decades, so it naturally became a core part of how I think, my identity and who I am. At first it felt really strange, but that quickly shifted into a sense of freedom, the ability to express a 100% personal vibe and emotions. It also marks my third EP on the label, which makes everything feel even more real.

You previously released “Soulcatcher” and “In The Dark” with Balthazar. How did those collaborations shape your sound going into this solo project?
The core sound identity remains the same, but the freedom of expression feels clearer and more focused.

Charlotte de Witte mentioned your versatility as a producer. How do you approach balancing techno energy with trance emotion in your music?
I see genres as structures built from different blocks, some universal, others tied to specific sounds. Then I think, ‘why not build my own shape from them?’ I really love that freedom approach.

You said each track on “Just A Feeling” comes from strong emotions. Can you explain how emotion drives your creative process in the studio?
It can come from a dark place, mostly, a spiritual moment, a happy moment, or a surge of inspiration after a life event. Somehow, Logic is the canvas where I share what I feel, maybe even a kind of soulmate. In every track there has to be something to remember, and the best way is to imbue it with what you feel. Of course, the opposite also happens, when you’re just experimenting with sounds and melodies and suddenly something clicks and you feel it in your skin. Then you know.

The EP is described as five different stories through soul, body and heart. How did you decide which emotions or stories to include?
I tell my stories with my tracks, then I pass them to Charlotte and she gets back to me with the ones she resonates with the strongest. I feel that as a really special moment, because in a way these tracks represent an alignment of music vibe, like resonating on the same wavelength.

Let’s start with the title track, “Just A Feeling.” What is the story or emotion behind this one? “Generation X” has a more complex and shifting mood. What inspired the contrast in that track?
“Just A Feeling.” Love, fear, attachment, excitement, happiness are all powerful emotions, but they are also deeply individual. What means the world to you might, nowadays, be just a feeling to the people around you.

About “Generation X,” I’m actually really happy you felt that and asked, because that was the main concept. I wanted to create a track that reflects my initial emotions and fascination with electronic music back in the day, the straight techno drive and the trancy melody, and how they can complement each other.

“Demons Within” feels very personal with its message. Is that track connected to your own experiences?
It naturally comes from my experiences, as no matter how happy a person seems, everyone has their own personal hell with a different theme. And that fight is where everything begins and ends.

“Can We Make It Right” closes the EP with a different energy. Why did you choose this track to finish the journey?
It’s a bit faster and different from my usual vibe, although I believe it still carries my emotional signature. Also, the title works in many ways as a finale, don’t you think?

You’ve performed in more than 30 countries. How do crowds around the world influence the way you produce music?
I believe this goes for every artist. A powerful night always kickstarts some inspiration. Besides that, different cultures and the people you meet along the way, everything can spark inspiration.

Looking ahead, what do you want listeners to feel after experiencing all five tracks from start to finish?
To feel is enough. If any of the tracks resonates in some way, if it brings images, thoughts, it becomes a kind of connection between us, and that is a unique and amazing experience.

Thanks for doing this. I really enjoyed our time together. In all of the interviews I do, I always give the artist the last word. Go.
Slow down, experience deeply, observe, feel. And to my fellow artists, always try to put a REAL piece of yourself into every piece of art you create, because that is what it actually is: a piece of you traveling around the world, influencing people.

Thank you for having me.
