Artist Interview: 1-on-1 with Gunslinger

Artist Interview: 1-on-1 with Gunslinger

A few weeks ago I had no idea who Gunslinger was. Then the team from Unfolded PR sent me a press release about a new single titled “All of your Life.” The song is legit, and I immediately wanted to learn more about this DJ duo.

These guys are from LA, have worked with several record labels, and are considered alternative dance/electro house. After listening to “All of Your Life” I listened to a few more of their singles, and really enjoyed “Dreamcatcher – Khurt Remix.” They seem to work with a lot of up and coming talent, and I look forward to hearing more from these guys soon. But first, I am glad I got the chance to sit down with them to learn more about their sound. It is my pleasure to introduce you to Gunslinger.

Tell me about your new release “All Of Your Life.”
It came about because we were playing around with the new I Wish plug-in by Infected Mushroom. It’s a very cool tool that inspired the whole song.

Speaking of Infected Mushroom, you have toured with them. What was that experience like?
It was amazing to tour with a group that is so original and with the most loyal fans. Infected Mushroom has been around for a while and they are not going anywhere. My guess is that they will only get stronger because their fans are into music and not fashion or trends.

What was it like opening for acts like Tiësto and Pendulum?
Like opening for Elvis had we lived in the 50s.

You have released work on several major record labels. Does that experience change from one label to the next, or are they pretty much the same?
We just do what we do and sometimes labels like it and but most times they don’t. Sales are so small these days that they usually have to release uninteresting music to the masses just to scape by.

Tell me more about Mental Noise EP.
The directors cut is the way we wanted it to be but it was the one time we did another version for Black Hole Recordings. Interestingly enough the label that Tiësto started. But the directors cut is a real Journey and we are very proud of that one because the melody is great, it bangs hard as hell and then goes deep and minimal before coming back to full power.

What is “Air Raid?”
“Air Raid” was one of first real bangers that lots of people liked and Black Hole Recordings signed. You should check out “Humanoid.” That is the one!

Wait… You guys were recently at Machu Picchu. That is awesome! Tell me more about that experience. Looks like a great time!
Anthem was on a 10-day motorcycle trip through southern Peru. Best trip and best place ever. The story of the Inca and Machu Picchu is a long one but worth a look so hope your readers will Google it.

You have played a lot of shows over the years. But only have a couple of dates on your upcoming schedule. Any plans to add more dates to your tour schedule in the coming months?
It’s an agent’s world out there and we’ve been very indie so guess it’s time to get an agent and more shows.

Tell me more about Holy Ship!
Don’t know much about Holy Ship! yet, but we it seems like we will have a great time and it looks good on the resume. Also very excited that we will be playing with some great friends that live in LA, JOYRYDE.

Do you guys like living in LA?
The weather is nice, but the traffic sucks. A lot of the people hear think they know what they’re talking about.

Speaking of LA, what is your favorite venue in the City of Angels?
For clubbing, it has to be the AVALON Hollywood. It’s just been there so long. Although a party I once threw back in the day was the inspiration for Create Nightclub… But that is another story.

What’s next for Gunslinger?
To be honest, not really sure…

In all of the interviews I do, I always give the artist the last word. Go.
Let us answer that best by quoting Hunter S. Thompson, “The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There’s also a negative side.”
