Your fan fixation may have materialized like mine while you were hanging out at a house party enjoying your self-taught DJ friend’s skills at the decks. He dropped some tracks that were so rhythmically and lyrically captivating that you adamantly inquired about the artist and track name. Maybe one time the answer came back, “It’s Kyau vs. Albert ‘Velvet Morning’ on Armin van Buuren’s ‘A State of Trance 2004.'” Perhaps another time the answer was, “Oceanlab ‘Sirens of the Sea’ (Kyau vs. Albert vocal mix.)” Time and again and totally unbiased, the tracks that soulfully spellbound you always pointed in some way to the same two artists of Kyau and Albert. And now the thoughts raced, “Who were these Kyau and Albert people, I want to know more about them and their music, and I can’t wait to see them live.”
Ralph Kyau and Steven Albert are the humble duo hailing from Löbau, Germany who brought their like and creative minds together meeting for the first time in 1994. Artistically they emerged as Kyau vs. Albert eventually dropping the ‘vs.’ for the more universally comprehendible ‘&,'” and have embraced a fruitful producer and DJ career for an impressive two decades now.
They’ve sung countless songs of passion from “This Love” to “Relevant Angel” and of passion lost from “Always A Fool” to “Another Time.” They’ve created mystical-named, non-vocal gems like “Kiksu” and “Megashira” to their current conversation piece “Bend Girl.”
They’ve mixed, remixed, collaborated with, and have had support from some of the best in the business including Paul van Dyk, Ferry Corsten, Above & Beyond, and Tiësto.
They’ve produced countless singles and remixes, played endless live shows at prominent clubs and festivals around the world, and have enjoyed global album success including with their latest Distant Lights. And somehow they still manage to deliver their popular monthly podcast “Euphonic Sessions.” Currently they’re basking in the glory as guest artists on the highly anticipated and freshly released Anjunabeats Volume 12 from longtime friends Above & Beyond and are featured an unprecedented three times on the album set. They share the album spotlight alongside notable names such as Ilan Bluestone, Sunny Lax and Jason Ross.
Dictionary.com describes the term ‘second wind’ as, “the energy for a renewed effort to continue an undertaking.” The number ’20’ often designates a solid, significant milestone year where artists declare a career departure and prepare for their farewell tour. They call it quits while lifelong fans cling to the potential for a reunion tour in 5 years. On the contrary, Kyau & Albert embrace that “energy for a renewed effort,” and the number ’20’ doesn’t suggest a departure as much as an inspiration. This same fervor is what drives them as they continue to promote their latest releases, their current Anjunabeats affiliation and the celebration of two decades as the gifted and talented duo. Bonus – 20 years of success hasn’t spoiled them. They also happen to (still) be some of the nicest guys in the business.
