Artist Interview: 1-on-1 with MNI

Artist Interview: 1-on-1 with MNI

Who is MNI? I have to be honest… I don’t know. A few weeks ago I heard their new single titled “Come Along” with Sofia Karlberg. The single is out now on Virgin Records. But I didn’t know much more. The single is good and I love the sound… I was clueless, so I reached out for an interview. This was tough for me, too. There isn’t a lot online. I did some digging and was excited to learn more. I came across this:

Started as a secret project, MNI strives to offer Berlin-infused dance music with a touch of pop nostalgia. The group has garnered a quarter of a million streams on their debut single, ‘Eyes’ feat. Jordan Shaw, and stirred the attention of fans with their rendition of Moodshift’s single ‘Touch’. For their second original release ‘Come Along’ they collaborated with Swedish pop sensation Sofia Karlberg on an energetic version of Titiyos original hit from the early 2000s. As they continue to pave their own path in the dance musicspace, MNI’s growing discography reflects a group of cohesive and talented producers that are breaking boundaries with their distinct signature sound.

I hope you enjoy this because this was fun… It is my pleasure to introduce you to MNI.

MNI started as an anonymous project. Tell me more about the project, what MNI stands for and why you decided to be anonymous.
We just felt like in a world where everything is focused around the things behind the music we wanna create a vision that leaves more attention space to only the music. We don’t really know where MNI came from. It’s probably the secret about it that gives us the energy for the tracks.

Your new single “Come Along” features Sofia Karlberg on vocals. Wow… What a great track! Tell me more about that release and your connection to Sofia.
We met Sofia a couple of years ago and have always loved her voice. “Come Along” was always an important track in our journey into writing pop music, so it felt very natural to try our own version and have Sofia on it.

What is your process for producing a new single? Do you sit down and just start producing, or do you have an idea of what it sounds like before you start production?
We’ve been trying to come up with an intrinsic movie about the energy of the track. As soon as we find that the rest follows own its own.

There are a lot of great clubs in Europe. Where are some of your favorite places to see a show?
Our favorite place is somewhere in Estonia!

I LOVE your hit single “Eyes” feat. Jordan Shaw. Tell me more about that release. Why did you choose that visualizer to go with the track?
We love 80s comics stuff and wanted to be as cool as Batman.

Pandemic aside, any plans for a tour or shows this year? Curious what fans can expect from seeing MNI live.
We’re dropping some new music very soon!

When you are not producing music, what are you listening to? Curious who inspires you!
Giorgio Moroder and Enya.

You keep releasing hit singles. Any plans to release a full-length album in the near future?
We’re super comfortable with doing more singles right now. But we will go on the journey for an album someday for sure!

Where can fans at home learn more about MNI?
Listen to every track on repeat at midnight and say MNI three times.

What’s next for MNI?
Our next track “Touch” with Pascal Letoublon is out now! Listen here.

What was it like working with Pascal Letoublon on the new single?
We wrote “Touch” a while ago but never found the right approach to give it the perfect production twist. So we decided to send it over to Pascal because we felt like it would be very interesting to add his energy and talent to the track. When he sent us his version it was better than what we had imagined in the beginning. He really knows what he’s doing and we hope to do more with him in the future.

Thank you for doing this. I can’t wait for your next release. In all of the interviews I do, I always give the artist the last word. Go
Thank you for your support of our music!
