Artist Interview: 1-on-1 with Martin Jensen

Artist Interview: 1-on-1 with Martin Jensen

When Martin Jensen released “Solo Dance,” I lost it. This song is SO good. Other singles you might have heard include “Middle Of The Night” and “Galway Girl.” He uses a lot of vocals, and I really like his sound. He’s been working with Emily Tan and has produced remixes for names like Ed Sheeran and Katy Perry. This dude is dialed in, and I was so excited to learn more about him. “I just want to dance with my pretty Galway Girl.” SO good! It is my pleasure to introduce you to Martin Jensen.

Your hit single “Solo Dance” has over 500 million streams on Spotify. Did you ever think it would be such a success?
My team and I definitely had high expectations for the song, but I never imagined it would go this far. It was definitely an amazing period seeing it take off like it did!

You have some tour dates coming up. Tell me more about the tour. Are you excited to visit Scottsdale, Arizona, my old stomping ground?
I’m super excited to play in Scottsdale! It’s going to be my first time visiting and I’ve heard amazing things about the place. The show is going to be mental I’m sure. Can’t wait to see the crowd!

You’ve produced remixes for Ed Sheeran and Katy Perry. When you produce a remix like that, do you get their permission first, or do you produce the remix and send it over?
Most of my remixes come in by request, and some songs I hear and just instantly feel like giving a new take on. It differs from time to time, but mostly it’s by request!

While in NYC, you will be performing at LAVO. What can fans expect from that performance? Better yet, what can fans expect from you night after night?
I’m so excited to return to NYC! It really is a magical place. The food, the vibe of the city and the crowd is always energetic. Fans can expect an energetic set with my biggest hits and hard club music.

I absolutely love your logo. I bet that would look sweet on a shirt. What kind of merchandise do you have and where can people shop?
I’ve actually just launched my very first merch collection! I’ve spent a long time designing it with our merch team and I’m loving the result. You can check out the full collection here.

You were recently in London. Ministry of Sound might be my favorite club in the UK. Had you played there before? What else did you do while in London?
London was crazy! We packed Ministry of Sound to the limit and the crowd was amazing. I’ve got some big plans for this year in the UK, can’t wait to share more.

You first appeared on the DJ Mag Top 100 in 2016. You were up 16 spots behind Carl Cox and ahead of Paul van Dyk. What does being on this list mean to you? I mean, you’re literally surrounded by legends!
It means the world to me! DJ Mag Top 100 is a great way of monetizing your growth and popularity as an artist. It’s really amazing to see fans supporting me each year. It’s like being in one big family. It’s an amazing feeling.

It seems like every DJ has a podcast. Tell me more about Martin Jensen Radio Show.
My monthly radio show is my way of showing people what music I’m currently listening to. It’s not necessarily what I play in my sets, but rather a show you can listen to at all times. I keep progressing the sound in the show and it’s quite the feeling to see it grow and more radios picking it up around the world.

You gave away a meet and greet for your show in London. Tell me more about that.
The meet and greet was amazing! I even signed a fans forehead. (Laughs.) We flew in a guy who won and we had an amazing time just talking and chilling. I love these sort of things since it gives me a way of connecting with the people who listen to my music and attend my shows.

Besides some impressive tour stops, what’s next for Martin Jensen?
This year I have sooooo much new music on the way. My next single will be released on March 1, right around my American tour! I can’t tell you who the singer is yet, but this one is going to be BIG!

Thanks for doing this, man. In all of the interviews I do I always give the artist the last word. Go.
Thanks for having me and a shout-out to all your readers and listeners. It’s an amazing platform you’ve built and I’m happy to be a part of it now! Hope to see all of you around the world and especially at my shows in the US coming up!
