What are the chances?

Backstreet Boys (often abbreviated as BSB) are an American vocal group consisting of Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, AJ McLean, and cousins Brian Littrell and Kevin Richardson. The group was formed in 1993 in Orlando, Florida.

EVERY song they release is a hit.. “I Want It That Way” and “Larger Than Life” are classics. I could listen to “Quit Playing Games” and “As Long as You Love Me” over and over again. Then came DNA, the ninth studio album (eighth in the US) by the Backstreet Boys. The album was first released in Japan on January 23, 2019, and everywhere else on January 25, 2019, through a collaboration with the group’s own K-BAHN record label and RCA Records.

The album is filled with more hit singles like “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” and “Nobody Else”. Songs like “New Love” and “Is It Just Me” bring us to “Chances”… Hands down the best song on the album and maybe the best song they’ve released. Sheryl likes it, too. Sort of why I wrote this blog post!

My dear friend Dan invited me to see BSB LIVE a few years ago. Um, obviously I am interested in that! So I flew to the Midwest, had a few drinks then saw BSB for the first time. It was amazing… We had great seats and I just sat there watching, singing and loving every minute of it. Had a few beers, too. Bud Light, if I remember correctly!

Seeing BSB live is on my bucket list… And on Friday, September 6, 2019, thanks to Dan and his clan, it happened. The show was SOLD OUT and while the venue was filled with mostly middle aged ladies, I didn’t care. The focus was on BSB, their music and their amazing dance moves!

A few nights ago Sheryl mentioned “Chances” and I had to write this… Hang on. I need to listen to this song. It may be a few minutes. I need to start with “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” and I plan to sing EVERY. SINGLE. WORD!!! “That’s not what love’s supposed to do…”

I am glad I decided to write this… BSB started in 1993. I was 10! Think about that… These guys keep making music, are STILL on tour and as a 38-year old I flew to the other side of the country to see them perform. And it was worth every mile, too.

I don’t normally see the same band twice, but I might make an exception to see BSB again. I have seen Nickelback twice… Armin, too. But he doesn’t count! Oh, snap… “I’ve been to Paris… Made my way down to Rome. Seen the sun setting on the beach in Mexico.” Sheryl and I have done ALL of these things!!! That is from the single “No Place” following “Chances” on DNA. “There ain’t no place… Ain’t no place like you.”
