One of the most successful Australian imports from recent years – CYRIL, returns to the airwaves with a new dance-pop ballad – “Still Into You,” for which he teamed up with rising starlet maryjo. The new song tows the line between electronic and girlie-pop with stylish ease as CYRIL fuses a dynamic, upbeat bassline with maryjo’s soulful vocals as she belts out lyrics that nearly every listener can relate to. With the combination of positive, energetic production and sing-a-long worthy vibes, “Still Into You” is bound to be a hit across multiple genres. CYRIL releases “Still Into You” off the heels of his debut US tour, where he performed in Chicago, San Francisco, New York City, Washington DC, and more cities, as well as his recent release of the 6-track To The World EP, which showcased how versatile producer he is. Meanwhile, maryjo is riding the high of her hit single “Nothing To Lose,” with more music on the way.

Still Into You

CYRIL is the Aussie-born artist behind two of the world’s hottest records at the moment, “Stumblin’ In” and his remix of Grammy-nominated artist Disturbed’s “The Sound of Silence.” Born and raised in the countryside of regional Australia and now based in Darwin, CYRIL, the producer, DJ, and multi-instrumentalist on guitar, piano, and drums, experienced a challenging journey from teenager to adult. He dealt with personal issues and turmoil, causing him to abandon his musical aspirations at times. However, one thing remained true: he always kept his laptop and guitar close to him, keeping the dream alive and constantly refining his craft. His biggest moment thus far came in late 2023 with the release of “Stumblin’ In,” which initially exploded on TikTok before dominating the worlds of streaming and radio. It became the #1 most played song on air in countries like Germany, Poland, Australia, New Zealand, and more, as well as covering some of Spotify and Apple’s biggest playlists. At the time of writing, the diamond-selling, ARIA-nominated CYRIL boasts an impressive 700M+ streams, sits atop the Shazam charts in over 20 different countries, has gone Platinum and Gold in numerous different countries, and has amassed more than 800K+ followers across socials. With a trajectory as clear as it is limitless, expect to hear a lot more from CYRIL in 2024 and beyond.

maryjo has the kind of phenomenal vocal command made for heart-melting piano ballads, often drifting from full-throated belting to a gorgeously fragile delivery inflected with cracks. Though it took years for the artist to overcome her fear of singing in front of others, she worked through her shyness by sharing videos on social media and quickly earned a devoted fan following for her singular and evocative vocal power. The 23-year-old artist continued to capture attention, earning praise for her unique renditions of songs by Ed Sheeran, James Bay, Tate McRae, and Jewel, teaming with the latter for a memorable duet performance of the classic “Foolish Games.” Among her fast-growing catalog of fan favorites are such tracks as “I Woke Up,” joined by an official live performance video filmed earlier this year on Knox’s “I’m So Good At Being Alone Tour,” streaming now. Other recent highlights include direct support for Alex Warren’s “Drunk Tattoo,” “Don’t Call Me,” the compelling “Traffic,” and “Cleveland,” the latter celebrating the Cleveland, OH-based artist’s hometown with an official music video showcasing her high school and other meaningful locations plus fashion from several Cleveland-based vendors. With 14M global streams to date, 1,4M social followers, and the expressive “Nothing To Lose” – and more new music on the way – maryjo remains steadfast in her goals, relating breathtaking emotion and musical artistry by simply staying true to her instincts.

Your new EP To The World just dropped! Can you tell me more about it and what inspired the tracks?
Some of these songs were finished in February 2024 and others in June 2024, so my music style has changed and evolved in between. I wanted the EP to showcase that evolution. Even though my signature sound is known to be a bit more commercial, I love experimenting with different genres.

Collaboration seems to play a huge role in your music. How do you decide which artists and producers to team up with? MarcLo and Riley Pearce are featured on this EP—how did those collaborations come about, and what made them the perfect fit for these tracks?
Collaboration is incredibly important to me, especially with people I vibe with creatively, and I’m grateful to have that connection with both MarcLO and Riley Pearce.

So, Riley Pearce was actually the main artist I listened to when I was homeless. While working on a record, I thought Riley’s voice would be perfect for it—and it truly was.

My manager actually sent me MarcLO’s topline, and if you’re in the music industry, you know MarcLO is one of the most respected songwriters and artists around. Getting to work with him was an incredible experience. If you haven’t already, check out some of MarcLO’s credits—he has an amazing catalog!

Your EP has 6 singles—how did you decide to go with just 6? How do you figure out the order of the tracks? Do you start with a bigger vision, or do you just piece it together as you go?
Well, we actually had to release two EPs because we had so many songs. (Laughs.) Altogether, the two EPs feature thirteen tracks, and that was tough because there’s so much music I want to release. I usually start with a bigger vision and then gradually narrow it down to the best pieces that showcase what I want creatively—and that my fans will enjoy!

You’ve been busy! You just dropped From Down Under in August. How did you know it was the right time to release your next EP?
“Stumblin’ In” came out in November 2023, and since then, I’ve only released one remix. I wanted to give my listeners some new music before they got tired of just one song on my Spotify! (Laughs.)

To The World continues the unique blend of bluegrass, country, and electronic sounds that you introduced in From Down Under. What inspired you to fuse these seemingly distinct genres, and how do you think this combination resonates with your audience?
I wanted this EP to showcase the different elements of my production, and I think my audience is excited to see that. If you follow me on social media, you’ll notice I remix songs across various genres, so this diversity shouldn’t come as a surprise.

With From Down Under now out on Spinnin’ Records/Warner Music, can you share what it’s been like working with these labels? How does the experience compare to other labels you’ve worked with before?
I love Spinnin’ Records and Warner Music, and I know it sounds cliché, but my team at Spinnin’ really feels like family. Yes, it’s a business transaction, but it doesn’t feel that way.

Other labels I’ve worked with have been quite unprofessional, whereas the process with Spinnin’/Warner has been fantastic.

Your love for music and unique style, like your signature bucket hat, really sets you apart. How does your fashion sense influence your music, and do you find that your personal style plays a role in how you express yourself creatively?
I’m no fashionista, to be honest. I just like wearing comfortable clothes—though a bucket hat is a must. I do enjoy a pair of cool sneakers, too!

Can you tell me about your remix of Disturbed’s Grammy-nominated cover of “The Sound of Silence?” I can’t resist hitting play every time that video pops up on YouTube!
I reckon that remix took me a good 12-16 hours to do and it was clearly worth it! I wanted to pay homage to Disturbed’s version but still provide a remix that was different.

Born and raised in the countryside of regional Australia and now based in Darwin, how has your background influenced your music and the sound you create?
Growing up in a small country town with only 50 people, the locals weren’t interested in the latest hits from Katy Perry or Pitbull—they loved live country music. So, from a young age, I was exposed to all these classic songs, which is how I came to know “Stumblin’ In,” while many people my age hadn’t heard of it.

With each single you drop and your consistent track record of EP releases, how do you deal with the pressure of living up to those growing expectations?
I’ve had a great year with a lot of success, and I’m grateful for that. I don’t think, “Okay, I need to make a song that’s going to get 500 million streams.” Sure, that would be amazing, and that’s the goal. But my main focus is creating something I like and that I think people will enjoy.

How does social media factor into your career, and how do you use it to stay connected with your fans? Also, where do you get ideas for fresh content to keep them engaged?
Social media is so important! My manager and I are always brainstorming new ways not only to engage with my audience but also to share more about myself, my processes, and my life.

You’ve been in the industry for a while now. How do you see the landscape of music evolving in the next few years, and where do you fit in?
I believe the introduction of AI into the music industry will transform the landscape in ways we can’t fully predict yet. In the long run, I think it’ll be beneficial, but like streaming, it will take time to integrate smoothly into the industry.

I fit in by continuously providing music that people want to listen to!

What tips would you give to someone who’s just breaking into the music industry?
Just don’t give up. Some people say I’ve had a quick rise to success, but they don’t see the last 10 years. I’ve made a lot of bad music… And I still do!

You’ve mentioned that despite facing personal turmoil, you always kept your laptop and guitar close. How did those moments of struggle shape your artistic identity, and how do you stay connected to your roots while continuing to evolve as an artist?
By remembering that what I do is a privilege, not a guarantee!

Thanks for doing this, man. I really enjoyed our time together! In all of the interviews I do, I always give the artist the last word. Go.
Not all heroes wear capes; some wear bucket hats!
